DUI should be taken seriously and punished harshly - Victim

Posted: Dec 28th, 2017 - 11:22 pm In Reply to: This is ridiculous. Nothing but oppression - And compounding problem

As a pedestrian who was hit by a drunk driver, I am horrified that it seems so few people take DUIs seriously. The driver in my case was over THREE TIMES the legal limit, drove off the road into a pasture, drove through 2 fences, where she then plowed into my group of friends, causing me a pelvic fracture, vertebral fracture, multiple lacerations and hematomas (some of which had to be drained by wound care), broke another woman's arm and also multiple bruises and lacerations, and lastly but most importantly and tragically killed a 15 year old boy. And some people out there think that she should be allowed to drive???? She should NEVER be allowed to drive again. And to top it all off, she was so drunk she doesn't remember the accident whatsoever! Yet we the victims have to live with the horrible memories every day, and indeed we are haunted by them every single day. I have no tolerance for people who DUI and in many instances they need to be punished even harsher than they are.
