He took whatever he could get--raking yards and loading trucks. The unemployment rate was through the roof and when we went to his 10-year reunion, I never saw such a bunch of sad, depressed unemployed young people in my whole life.
HMO's came in and wrecked the health care system and it was the beginning of the end for unions that made things so much better for working people.
Nice for you that you were so rich back then, too.
