After getting my 10,000 steps by walking the mall, I decided on a couple affordable tote bag/fleece throw/fuzzy socks sets for the younger girls. One design has rabbits, the other cats, cute but not too childish or cartoony. The older girl is getting a gift card. I think that is safest for that age.
As for those who said it would be helpful to know more about the girls' personality, I agree with you. Problem is, the granddaughters and I have a few quick conversations a year over the fence, and the other girl, even less since she is not next door; we wave mostly. I really wanted the thank you gifts for the adults to be a surprise, so walking to the houses and asking about the girls could seem a bit creepy. :)
BTW, I'm keeping the list of ideas you all provided for future reference. Thanks again!
