The only two states with average property taxes greater than $7000 were New York and New Jersey.

Here's the link again:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2017/04/16/comparing-average-property-taxes-all-50-states-and-dc/100314754/

New York's average is $7013. New Jersey's average is $8,477. New Jersey has the highest property tax in the country at 2.31%.

I suppose we can debate what qualifies as wealthy. Some would say just owning a home puts you at a significant advantage over the working poor who can't afford to own a home. Paying higher than average property tax for 49 out of 50 states probably also qualifies you as wealthy, in the eyes of many.

But the real issue is this:
Why should the rest of the country pay more because of laws enacted by your state? Because of laws and tax rates enacted by the people YOU put into office?

If you oppose the GOP tax plan based on your state taxes, you're expecting the rest of the country to pay for your situation. You're expecting us to pay for a situation you created. If the people of your state believe higher taxes are the way to go, then so be it. Please leave the rest of us out of it.

My advice: Take that issue to your state leadership and leave the rest of the country out of it.
