What they/you call bigoted, others call standing up for their rights.
The people of Alabama will look at WHY he was disciplined as a judge. Both times it had to do with protecting (according to Moore/them) Christian values. One time was refusing to remove a 10 Commandments monument. The other was regarding gay marriage.
Those are signs that Moore is willing to fight for values he believes in. It's not unlike the time the media bolstered Wendy Davis for her anti-abortion filibuster in Texas. People who agreed with that value adored her. People who didn't agree thought she was disgusting.
The problem with the media is they think everyone should agree with them and everyone who agrees with them is the "smarter group." That's not how a representative democracy works. It should be pretty obvious (to most of the "smarter group" at least) that you're not going to get very far calling someone's grandfather a child molester.
