She was likely flattered that he paid attention to her and asked him to sign.

My mom has scrapbooks from her old high school days and she was quite scrupulous about labeling her mementos and stuff (concert tickets, programs, and pictures) with her friend's names, dates and where they were. Almost every picture also has their ages on them. It is a great record now. No Facebook or computers then. I am not surprised at all she would date and put the location on the entry. Diaries were big then, too.
