More Wasted Taxpayer Dollars! - Ugh

Posted: Dec 1st, 2017 - 12:37 pm

I live in a very small 1-BR apartment.  The bathroom is so tiny, everything in there (toilet and tub) is incredibly cramped. When I moved in here, there was a standard smaller, round-shaped low-flush toilet.

Management decided to "upgrade" to an ADA approved toilet to accomodate wheelchairs so is taller.  In addition, the seat is the larger, elongated style.  Of course, this new one takes up more room than the old toilet.

The company got a federal kickback -- er, subsidy -- to install these ADA approved toilets.  I have no idea how much, however -- it is a relatively large complex (for around here, anyway), with several hundred units.

Here's the kicker:  I live UPSTAIRS.  In addition, doorways of this unit are STANDARD width!  Finally, the bathroom is so tiny that there is no way anyone who is wheelchair-bound could even get in there.  (The door opens inward as well.)

This unit would have to undergo remodeling in order to accommodate someone in a wheelchair.  I have never, ever seen an outdoor ramp on a building of the length and at the acute angle that would be required for access.  IOW, it's a ridiculous propositon so simply isn't done.

Your tax dollars at work!! Rejoice.
