Puhleez! - Historian

The great thinkers disagree with you. Ever hear, "Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it?!"

I am considered a "historian" by many, although I never refer to myself as one because the learning never ends. I am part Cherokee, part Blackfoot, and have a friend who is a Narragansett chief. That said, I try not to let my NA genes color my stance on anything. (My family, especially the Cherokee side, went "white" and lost all the knowledge and traditions anyway.)

What I DO know is that history is written by the victors. I also know that with just about every single historical topic I have researched, the actual truth differs greatly from the "official" version.

In this case, I believe that this account is largely accurate. Our initial encounters with "Indians" -- I never refer to them as such not to be PC but because (a) It's less confusing; its usage always leads to feather or dot (Indian subcontinent) "Indian?" (b) The story they spoonfed us about Columbus being "lost" is 100% FALSE, and I don't like perpetuating myths -- were much milder in comparison with later battles. In other words, over time the bar was raised -- our brutality against them ramped things up.

The cornucopia, which came to represent Thanksgiving, is an occult symbol.

"Thanksgiving is associated with the cornucopia, symbolizing food, abundance, and prosperity. The cornucopia of plenty has its origin in ancient mythology. The Roman god Fortuna, the goddess of luck and fortune, was often depicted carrying a cornucopia and it became linked with her. Lady Fortune represented how life was subject to the whim of chance, good or ill. In ancient Roman times Fortuna was sought by many seeking good fortune and to avoid bad luck. Since then this goddess has a modern name…Lady Luck.

Here is the possible occult meaning of Thanksgiving. We give thanks for our abundance, with the unspoken hope of avoiding scarcity in the year ahead. Giving thanks is not just an act of appreciation for what has past, but hope for the future as well. Unknowingly, with thanksgiving we are practicing the law of attraction."

I also take issue with this: "Proclaimed a holiday in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln." Yes, but T-giving celebration had already been going on since at least 1789 when Washington issued the first ever EO (executive order) declaring T-giving a holiday worth celebrating. Of course, we all know that the constitutionality of EOs is questionable, and this is how the Chief Executive rules by fiat. But much more difficult to challenge after 200+ years of precedent. They always start out "benign" so nobody protests. This is a tangential point to this discussion but one that I think important to note.

Finally, for the record I voted for Trump and couldn't stand Obama. However, those political leanings have nothing to do with what actually happened between "us" and the "Indians."

I thank the OP for posting this!
