Yes, the government allows the price of labour to fall to zero. It’s called involuntary unemployment. The federal government alone controls the unemployment rate through net spending. Anybody who is unemployed has no market value. The market does not currently want them for any purpose. The price of their labour is zero.
So, now think: Do we allow the price of corn to fall to zero? No, we do not. But for human beings, letting their price fall to zero is perfectly ok. Just don’t allow that to happen to… um… corn?
If a job guarantee is good enough for corn, it's good enough for humans as well.
