I don't find it a "political" thing at all. I think it is a parent's decision and find many different reasons and have seen both have success or failure. So you feel teaching your child your political views is the right way instead of teaching your child to think for him/herself? My child went to a public school and learned all about American history, did awesome in math, and I have never pushed him to have my views on politics but to weigh things out in his own head and make his own political decisions. He's doing very well in his life, hard working, paying his taxes and votes how he chooses, not how I choose. He also knows plastic bags are bad for the environment.
