Trump won on this issue, not only because he was correct about it, - but he was the only one even addressing

it. He won the working class vote because he was the only one even trying.

I've worked in big companies and small before I became an MT, and one commonality the insistence that "our people are our number one asset" that in the successful firms was actually taken seriously, but in the less successful ones met only lip service. Outsourcing was not kind to the latter, like MT.

We are dealing with VR and manufacturer's can use robots.

I hate to tell you, but the robots do a better job than the humans. They’re more sure, they work faster, they don’t take off for being sick, they get things right 100% of the time. I should know. My husband's technician job is being automated piece by piece. By the time we retire, there will be no one to replace him and no need to replace him; machines will the job with no intervention by humans.

Robots are even taking over in the medical profession. It's called automation. This is the same essential tradeoff that powered the industrial revolution. It will just extend further into many more types of tasks.

I was told 23 years ago by some bitter guy who was about 50, now my age, to forget going to school to learn Microsoft suite and typing/MT. I should have listened. He said “don't bother. You can talk into computers now so they don't need typists and soon computers will do all the work on their own.”

There’s ALWAYS an excuse to give up. But as long as government regulations and tax policy don't discourage hiring, history would tell us that automation will be a net plus.
