Suggestions need what to make with certain foods - Bad cook

Posted: Oct 28th, 2017 - 4:02 pm

Today I had to go to a food pantry.  First time in my life, but no food in the cupboards, except expired oatmeal, expired dried beans, expired lentils, cans of chicken broth.  Hubby has not been able to find work and I don't make enough.  Anyway...I got a couple boxes of food and I am ever so grateful to have it, but I'm not sure what to do with some of the stuff, so thought I'd come here to get some different ideas.  Things I got were...a bottle of steak sauce, 2 cans of kidney beans, can of green beans, can of corn.  Carton of chicken broth, bag of mixed dried beans, rice, frozen green beans, frozen garbanzos.  I'm trying to make things that will go a long way and we can get multiple meals from.  On the bag of dried mixed beans I have no idea how to prepare it or what to put in it.  I also got a box of quinoa, a bag of onions and a bag of potatos.  The potatoes look like they are on the last leg, so figured we'd do something with them first.  They also gave me 2 bags (2 dozen) of already peeled hardboiled eggs, a block of processed cheese and a bag of corn tortillas, but the tortillas (good til) date is 10 days ago.  They are hard (feel stale), so thought I'd do something with them like in a dish that I cook, chop them up?  I just don't know.  I am grateful to our community for donating food to help us in need.  I used to always donate.  Never dreamed I would actually need it one day, but it's such a mixture of different foods I just don't know what to do with it and need some suggestions.
