Employers used to offer health insurance through group plans and could shop around for cheaper ones. ACA blew that all apart. Mandating that an employer cover health insurance isn't what a free society is about. This all started after WWII. Employers would offer insurance as a way of attracting better workers. And then it was just hospitalization, or major medical as we called it then.
