One big difference is the HUGE number of new immigrants, particularly (but not only) Hispanics. Picking up the tab for them will not be cheap...for starters.

But, what I tell people is very simple regarding government-run health care - we would be FREEZING EVERYTHING. In other words, no new drugs, since no more research money being spent (particularly worrisome for antibiotics), and no more investment in hospital rooms and equipment, despite a rapidly aging country. We would have to slowly and gradually turn the screws against people who have the misfortune of getting something treatable, but without the resources to treat them - such as a cut-off age for cataracts surgery - maybe 80 years old. Same with knees and hips.
