the man's daughter and I talked about the cat. He's a 99% outdoor-only cat, 15 years old, beautiful and extremely healthy. The tenant in their rental studio had taken over the care of feeding the cat, but now he's gone because he had to move because of the house being sold.

I would take him in a minute, but already have a cat and can't afford any more, plus she doesn't like this cat. I talked with the daughter of the man that died, and we found another next-door neighbor who is willing to take on his care, which mainly consists of feeding him twice a day, letting him in on cold or rainy nights, and taking him to the vet once a year for a checkup. It's a blessing for the kitty, because now he can live on his same turf, without the turmoil of being flown clear across the country to where the man's daughter lives.

So, maybe you could ask around your complex and see if there's a neighbor who would be willing to continue that kitty's care so that he can still live in his same, familiar neighborhood.
