Ever hear the expression "Plays well with others" and "Good citizenship". I recall those were graded items on kindergarten and 1st grade report cards.
I do not think home schooling is the best place to objectively develop a child's skill at working with others. As far as exposure to bullies, it gives a child the opportunity for the character building that will serve well as far as "doing the right thing" and becoming an ethical human being. Another thing I fear your kids missed out on. So sad.
