The NFL players only started coming out and standing for the National Anthem in 2009. The government paid the NFL 12.3 million between 2011 and 2015. This was to boost military recruitment.

When you say these players inject themselves into politics, it actually started the other way around. The military injected themselves into the sports audience. THEY, the players, did not get paid or have any say in this using them as a recruiting tool for the military.
