OMG...we already HAVE single payer healthcare! It's called Medicaid! The reason it doesn't work is because it's only available to a certain class of people (those who do not pay into the system). I think if everyone isn't going to be taken care of, no one should be. Look at the rest of the world. We (the U.S.) are one of 3 or 4 countries (and the only "world power") without socialized medicine. PLEASE look up the definition of "socialized" before you call me a commie. I, for one, would not complain about taxes if I could ACTUALLY benefit from them as do certain other classes of people (those who, ironically, do NOT pay taxes.) Wake up. We are already subsidizing healthcare for a LARGE portion of our citizenry, not to mention many immigrants who, while not yet Americans, are able to avail themselves of our medical systems at no cost to them or their families. So, until Medicaid is revamped to cover EVERY citizen, the only ones who will be taken care of will be those who do not pay in. This is nothing new.
