Two sides to every story - I am living this Posted: Sep 4th, 2017 - 6:44 pm In Reply to: The Wall is a big mistake - Multi-billion $$ band-aid
I live in an agricultural-based economy and we have a very large Hispanic population; I can tell you how it has affected our community. There is no available housing and rental homes are at a premium because they have taken it all. When they come, they bring a carload of relatives with them and it is not uncommon for 10 or 12 people to be living in a 2-bedroom apartment rent-free. A good number of them drive junk cars or cars that have been modified to be as noisy as possible. What used to be considered nice neighborhoods have been overrun and there is a lot of gang activity and drug dealing. They get involved in traffic accident because many of them are unlicensed, not insured and don't know how to drive. They shoplift from grocery stores and list goes on and on. Yes they do some jobs that no one else wants and I guess that's a good thing but right now the bad that they bring far outweighs the good. Food prices, well I haven't seen much of a decline or stabilization in prices, most of the grocery store produce seems to be imported regardless of local availability. I used to be very open-minded and non-prejudicial but I am really sick of going to local businesses and having a bunch of them yammering away in Spanish. I'm hoping some of them leave after harvest and give us back our community. I don't know if a wall is the answer but immigration from Mexico is out of control and something needs to be done. Those are my facts.
