Some Minneapolis restaurants adding fee to fund health care

Posted: Jul 29, 2017

Starting Friday, a number of Minneapolis restaurants will include an extra fee with your meal to fund health care. Barbette, the Bryant Lake Bowl and the Bird are just a few of Ann Bartman’s restaurants. She’s adding a 3 percent service charge to customer’s checks to offset the rising cost of healthcare for her employees. ;

Arizona college has been charging students a fee to fund - scholarships for illegal immigrants.

Somebody always has to pay.

We pay not only in taxes but higher prices for everything.

Black Rock Steak House in Vermont does this too. - We took six in for dinner one

[ In Reply To ..]
evening, the meal came to $148. we left a big tip because the service was great, got to the checkout and she charged us another $30 surcharge. Never ever going back.

Some restaurants charge a 15% automatic tip for parties of - six or more. nm

.

Yeah, but the bill clearly said "cost of health care" - I certainly won't eat there anymore.

[ In Reply To ..]
I already pay for my own health care and as we all know, our fees supplement those who supposedly can’t afford it.

I sure don’t want to help pay for someone else’s also just because I’m eating out!
It should have said "Obamacare tax" intead of - simple cost of healthcare
[ In Reply To ..]
Force patrons to see it.
Businesses are going to be forced to raise their prices to - cover it. I like the idea of it being on
[ In Reply To ..]
the bill rather than just hide it. Same with minimum wage.

Maybe that will finally get it through people's heads that nothing is free.

Apparently untrue - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
A service charge in added at many restaurants for parties of 6 or more. The tip has nothing to do with the bill.

Apparently you are wrong - again

The state of Minnesota has completely gone off the - rails. A rectal care company

i'm sure rectal should be rental - nm

they post? LOL...rectal care company. Do you mean rental car company? Of course you did.

LOL. I meant rental. I was working at the same time - trying to hurry up. Looks

[ In Reply To ..]
like a VR mistake doesn't it?

No problem. Instead of tipping 20% for good service, I'd just tip - 10 or 15% to adjust for the surcharge.

xx

You are probably paying for needy assistance through - your electric bill and gas bill.

[ In Reply To ..]
Same with other utilities. They don't bother to break it down, but if you take a look at the bill and call and ask what some of the taxes are you'd be quite surprised.

this is probably the only way some thick headed - people will understand nothing

[ In Reply To ..]
is free.

Lol...this restaurant group is informing by line item - 3% because they SUPPORT

[ In Reply To ..]
Healthcare and want people to know they are supporting it for their employees. My bet....they would support SINGLE PAYER that would affect and cover everyone, evening the playing field and all would have to figure costs into operating expenses.

We think our customers will appreciate knowing that our workers have good quality, affordable health insurance.”

Bartmann also notes that, “All of our sustainability efforts — solar panels, LEED certifications, composting, supporting local organic farms and permaculture, low-waste events — are ultimately about human health, just like health coverage. I’m committed to offering quality health insurance to our employees, whatever it takes.”

From one of their job descriptions--- - I will definitely stop by to

Do business here and be proud to pay the 3%.

Really, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

That's nice, but she has to charge her customers more to do - it. At least people are aware and

[ In Reply To ..]
given a choice of whether to dine there or not.

I think all places should have to put this on the bill.

I'd probably have gone back and scooped most of the tip - off the table if they charged me 20%

[ In Reply To ..]
on the meal and tax. Looks like sales tax in Vermont is 6%. So if your $148 was gross after tax, the surcharge is closer to 25%.

My guess is that numerous places will, or have already increased their prices to cover the additional expense of healthcare. One reason we don't eat out very often.

This is an excellent example for me to teach my children - how nothing is free. When

[ In Reply To ..]
someone steals from a retail store they write the cost off and raise prices on goods. We all pay one way or another.

Perfect example of the bizarre twisted ideology of - the Liberal Fascists

[ In Reply To ..]
They should put their 3% toward treatment of their mental disorder.

I have the perfect nasty retort...but this simply isn't - Worth it...anymore

Your playpen mentality will go unanswered from.now.on.

Come up with real discussion, real statistics, models, political theories, something of your own thought or others, but simply calling names is no longer worthy of the read. If it says Liberal Fascist consider yourself IGNORED. Not worthy of response.

Any likes for this post, I would like it to bind us in not even opening posts with those insulting labels...maybe it will fade away...or, better yet, learn to communicate with the adults.

Health Care Reform-Question About Canadian Health CareDec 03, 2009
So....a friend is for our US health care reform (already retired and on Medicare) because he had no trouble going to Canada to get laser surgery on his eyes so he wouldn't have to wear glasses and states there is nothing wrong with the Canadian system....but, and I'm asking a serious question here, how long do people really wait for emergent surgery if they belong to the Canadian system versus the American system as we have it now? How did Canada get their health care system up and ru ...

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...

Judge Rules Out Health Care LawDec 13, 2010
This is good news.  Now if politicians could just make health care affordable for all.  I'd love the same rates as someone in Idaho or other states have.  Make health insurance competitive, they have to accept pre-existing conditions and nobody could ever be refused health care and I think that would be a great way for a new year.  But forcing people to buy a product they don't want is just not right and I'm glad this judge saw how unconstitutional it is. &nbs ...

Fraud In Health Care SystemMar 13, 2010
It is estimated that there is at least 100 billion dollars health care fraud annually.  There are truly needy people and they should be helped.  But there are also many people who don't have health insurance because they just do not want to pay premiums, use their money for other things instead, when they could pay and are able to pay.  This is just not right and this needs to be stopped, and that should make a dent in health care costs.  Why not go after the health care ...

According to what I have been reading today, NO. While Congress has used its taxing power to fund Social Security and Medicare, never before has it used its commerce power to mandate that an individual person engage in an economic transaction with a private company.
