Single payer for all

Posted: Jul 26, 2017

If we really want single payer it makes sense to include items that will reduce the cost for everyone. 1. We need to remove malpractice insurance and malpractice lawsuits. If we left these in place we'd force doctors to practice defensive medicine. Anyone complaining of intercostal muscle strain must be kept overnight in the hospital and submit to a battery of tests to rule out a heart problem. 2. Speaking of heart problems... Most of those are due to a bad diet (not to mention obesity and diabetes). Now we also have outlaw any and all unhealthy food. What's unhealthy? We should let the government decide that. Maybe we don't want to outlaw unhealthy food. That's a little over the top. What if we just put the entire nation on foodstamps and mandate that foodstamps can only be used to buy healthy food? If the government is giving us free healthcare, they might as well give us free food. You'll die a lot faster from a lack of food than a lack of healthcare. 3. What about free housing? If we already have free food and free healthcare, can you really make a case against free housing? The homeless are the most unhealthy people around. A lot of people can't afford their own place which forces them to live in stress-inducing suboptimal environments, with roommates or abusive family members. 4. That free government house isn't really a home without the typical amenities like appliances, electricity, heating, water, and Internet. The government should provide that too. It's okay, all of that stuff ties back to healthcare too. You don't want your free food to go bad before you eat it. Of course, eating rotten food will make you sick. 5. What about a job? We can't have people sitting around all day doing nothing leaching off the government. They should all go to work for the government. There's plenty of jobs now. We need to build more housing. 6. Children are next. In order for society to be sustainable we must have more children. Every couple needs to have at least 3 to maintain the population (there's always attrition of some sort) and keep the economy strong. Sorry LGBTQIA community, there's no exceptions. We must all do our part. What am I forgetting? Oh yeah, I'm forgetting that no one will actually try to force all of this on you in one package. Nobody wants that! They'll only force it on you in parts. The secret to stopping it is learning to recognize which part comes first. ;

I forgot government mandated exercise.

Since a lack of exercise is pretty bad and a leading cause of negative health outcomes. Maybe we should all be forced to bike or walk to work? Or we could have two government jobs, one desk job and one manual labor job. That should keep us healthier.

This is the last step for the left to privatize our - entire economy. There are many

RINOs who want to as well. Just look at what goes on at the NIH in the UK. Corruption to the max.

Healthcare costs inflated by collusion and price-fixing will bankrupt the country through Medicaid and Medicare.

People like to cite the VA and England. But they never read the horror stories. I know several vets who use private insurance.

Without the Federal Reserve buying govt bonds, - we're already bankrupt.

I paid into Medicare for 50 years and am now on it. I still have to pay for Part B, Supplemental insurance, AND Part D (Pharmacy) and am frequently told, "you need this test but Medicare doesn’t cover it." So, I still have to pay out for tests and procedures that Medicare doesn’t cover.

Fed up with Medicare.....higher expectations after paying on for 50 years. And AARP isn’t a real advocate for retirees. They are a money making business using the elderly to make a buck. Plus they are a mouthpiece for Democrats.

How about this. Let everyone with a preexisting condition on - Medicare and the rest of us

can buy our own free market insurance, but we don't have to pay the Medicare tax that is going to happen. Let us opt out of it.

I wish someone would define the term "preexisting condition". - sm

Currently, it means anything the insurance companies want it to mean.

Can't wait for the global warming tax on top of the - single payer tax. What's next?

moral of that story. Everybody wants a slice of bread but not everybody is willing to help bake it.

I changed my diet and lost 40 pounds and got rid of my high blood sugar. I started taking magnesium tablets and lowered by blood pressure.

I think many diseases can be dealt with by behavior changes. All modern medicine does now is prescribed expensive drugs, they don't cure disease.

Personal responsibility and personal habits. Why should - I subsidize the guy who stuffs

5 hohos in his mouth every day and is 60 lbs overweight. Why should people who watch their health and rarely go to the doctor because of it subsidize all the obese people who have far more health problems?

I know many people are ill and need medical care and I'm not talking about those. I'm talking about people who are sick from their own choices.

What about women who use abortion as a form of birth control? I can understand it happening once, but to keep up the behavior is lack of personal responsibility.

If single payer is okay, then what part of Bernie's platform - is next? Free college?

We have disaster because of the concentration of power over health in the hands of bureaucrats, insurance and special interests as it is now.

I had to look up the definition of SPHC just to make sure I was understanding this correctly.

“Single-payer healthcare is a healthcare system in which the state, financed by taxes, covers basic healthcare costs for all residents regardless of income, occupation, or health status”

HOW can ANYONE of any sound mind think that would work when we are $20 trillion in debt??

That's the point - who will pay for it all? - anon

Jane Sanders proved an inability to run a college given she ran it into the ground. Free college is a great concept, however, will all of those mostly liberal college professors work for free? I think not.

Something that never gets talked about is how to control - medical costs. Using

Social Security, it will run out of money in 2034. At that time, only incoming taxes will be available to pay for benefits, and the incoming taxes will only cover about 75% of the promised benefits.

This is from the SS/Medicare site itself.

Physicians For Single PayerJul 24, 2017
The program would be funded by the savings obtained from replacing today’s inefficient, profit-oriented, multiple insurance payers with a single streamlined, nonprofit, public payer, and by modest new taxes based on ability to pay. Premiums would disappear; 95 percent of all households would save money. Patients would no longer face financial barriers to care such as co-pays and deductibles, and would regain free choice of doctor and hospital. Doctors would regain autonomy over patient care. ...

The Myths Of The Single Payer SystemOct 26, 2013
For all the people who want a socialized health care system (i.e. single payer system), it's not what you think it is.  This is written by someone who has been working in the field for years and understands it.  There are also people in other countries in this type of health care system that cross referencing verfies the accurancy of this information. Myth No. 1: Everyone has access to health care a single-payer system. Everyone in a single-payer system has health insurance, not ...

Sometimes I'd Rather Be Single...Dec 30, 2011
Sometimes I'd rather be single instead of being yelled at for some things that are out of my control.  I have worked so hard today.  I had been typing for 6 hours when my husband calls ( I am currently working at my moms until DSL is hooked up at my place) and starts going at it with the fact that the dog peed in the house.  I said well I have been working and nothing I can do about it.  I went over there one time and let them out.  He peed on hard flooring so easy ...

Single Moms???Sep 06, 2011
I'm not sure it's really a "problem" - more brainstorming and like to hear how others do it.  You might remember this past spring that I found out my husband was cheating on me so we got divorced which was final within 8 weeks.  Within 2 weeks after that, the ex moved 1700 miles away.  He's been back to our state (his whole family lives in my town) once in the last 4 months and that was for 4 days to get married.  When he got into town he picked up our son ...

Nixing Saturday Mail Delivery Will Hurt Minorities And Single MothersFeb 09, 2013
After the United States Postal Service announced that it intends to stop delivering mail on Saturdays in an effort to cut costs beginning this August, many praised it as a relatively straightforward way to save roughly $2 billion a year. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) was apparently one of them. He explained on MSNBC: ...
