This is encouraging for those of us who

Posted: Jul 24, 2017

Those of us who care about our planet should find it encouraging to know that even though Trump backed out of the Paris Agreement, many in the rest of the country and world are sticking with their promises to abide by their committments.

;

What exactly does the Paris agreement require of nations? - Not much sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It requires nations to state their plans, but they can do whatever they want.

The purpose is to get countries to "peak" greenhouse gas emissions. But, of course, it makes the concession that it will take longer for developing countries to reach that peak.

Translation: Keep increasing pollution. But please be sure to announce your plan to level off as soon as possible.

My source? A fact check article that calls Trump a liar.

Yes they can do what they want and most - want to commit more

to renewable energy and less to fossil fuel.

The one who didn't know it wasn't a do it or else was apparently Trump. I knew it was just an agreement to do what we can but I think it helps create some competition among countries. Many countries are helping countries who cannot afford to invest in the innovation and use of renewable energy but nobody is making them.

Trump always thinks we're getting gypped on everything. Nobody said we have to do anything.

Here's an article on what China is doing, who is meeting their goals ahead of time.

Next question, how is it encouraging that countries - plan to increase pollution? sm

Nothing prevents China and India from increasing pollution for the next 10 years. Then they can say, "Oops, miscalculation. We meant we'll increase pollution for the next 20 years." Then in 20 years, "Yeah, maybe just one more decade, then we'll be there."

In any event, it doesn't matter. The scientific consensus will change by then and everyone will recognize they got this one wrong too.
I have no clue what you are - even talking about.

Maybe when all our coastal cities are under water you'll realize they weren't wrong.

As far as China and India, apparently people having to wear masks to go outside has woken them up and kudos to them for doing what they need to do for humans to be able to survive. Kudos also to the companies and individuals in this country who are also doing the same, even if our president doesn't get it.
If they were right, the coastal cities would already be under water - nm

Some coastal places are under water during very high tides, sm - VTMT

over the sea wall only with big storms, two or three times a year (sea rise had already begun when we purchased). We were told a couple of rather historic storms had flooded up close to our lower patio, but those were...notable. But the changes over the past four years alone have been rather dramatic.

Now every month when full moon and high tides come together, the water routinely rises up over the boat dock floor and over the sea wall, and it also routinely does with normal storms. Every large storm brings the water level up to just below the lower patio. We expect complete flooding with normal storms up over the lower patio itself to become normal before long, perhaps this year.

Next we'll watch it routinely start climbing the 3 steps to the upper patio, which is only @20 inches below the mobile home. Before then we'll have had to decide what to do about that, raise it further, what?, as really big storms easily rise that far.

We knew this was happening going in, purchasing an ancient mobile home on water that we could afford to lose for lifestyle, not investment, but sea level is definitely rising faster than we hoped it would.
Thank you for firsthand account - For the science deniers

Sorry it is happening though.

account. Take away the HVAC that protects us all from reality, and deniers would become screamers for action.

Most of the nation had highs in the 90s today, cooler than the weekend. Just imagine the typical modern sealed, insulated tract house without air conditioning. Those houses typically have poor cross ventilation at best and typically are not shaded by trees. They would trap most of the heat beating down, literally becoming unlivable.
Like the back of a semi truck - That was awful

Extremes people will go to to make their lives better! Just didn't work out for these people.

Your translation is incorrect - sm

Your statement: "The purpose is to get countries to peak greenhouse gas emissions" is incorrect.

Rather: Parties aim to reach GLOBAL peaking of greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible, recognizing that peaking will take longer for developing country Parties.

Big difference.

Cuba Blames Obama For Encouraging IllegalAug 08, 2016
HAVANA (Reuters) - Havana on Sunday blamed Washington for a surge of Cubans trying to reach the United States by land and sea, accusing the Obama administration of encouraging illegal and unsafe immigration. Tens of thousands of Cubans over the last two years have flocked to the U.S.-Mexican border and taken to the sea in hopes of reaching Florida, fearing a growing detente between the Cold War foes will lead to a change in U.S. policy.
