Dear Mr. Trump

Posted: Jul 23, 2017

This gives me hope again.  If Trump tries to veto they've got an answer for that built into this.  Both parties.  Good for them!  Not about who won or lost a long finished election, it's about how we react to attacks of any kind on our country.  I'm enjoying this, after all the babbling about the meddling being fake.  Bipartisan support here for sanctions and a strong message to Trump.  It isn't even so much about the sanctions for me. It's about holding up the crazy tweets against what the rest of our elected officials believe to be true based on all the evidence they have seen, highlighting that Trump is the one spouting fake information, not everyone else disagreeing with him.  He will be standing alone if he keeps giving false information and this is the way it will be done.  I hope they keep going, making him accountable for the things he has said, the difference between his claims and truth immortalized for history, one by one.

Amen! - He needs to

realize that he is not a king and cannot keep tweeting veiled threats and throwing doubt on our free press and get his way! Pay attention Mr. Trump - America has been around for longer than you and will continue after you are gone! Best system in the world to make sure the president cannot be above the rest of us!

Well, we survived 8 years of Obama, but we do not - resemble what used to be called the United

States of America. That entity is gone.

Ask yourself if the US survived the Obama presidency.

Have we experienced racial healing? Has terrorism been brought to a finish? Do other nations respect our status as lone superpower? Are we a nation-state or a republic? Are our borders secure?
Do we have a thriving economy?

Survival in a closing world is less preferable than prosperity and freedom.

Ancient Rome lasted 1500 years. The question is would you prefer to live in ancient Rome or Orwell’s 1984? I’ll take Rome any day.

Well to answer your - first question -

we not only survived Obama's presidency - we definitely brought ourselves out of the greatest recession since the Great Depression. Many of the wonderful numbers on the stock market, jobs, etc., are because of Obama's policies. The Trump followers love to tout all of these new numbers as the result of Trump, but when anyone asks where his promises are theses same Trump supporters race to point out he has only been in office 6 months - exactly, so many of these good numbers do not belong to his administration at all!

Racial healing? Racism has been running rampant in our country since it began. Why did people think that electing a black president was going to make that all go away? He did not make it worse, as some of you seem to want so desperately to believe, but because he was black it made it easier for some people to expect more from him than they would have from a white president. Now I have seen more racism since this newest president took office, but in my opinion it is because he has brought out the people who have deep seated racism and now think they don't have to keep it to themselves.

Terrorism brought to a finish? Do you really expect that to ever happen, under any president? As with racism, terrorism has been around for generations all over the world. We just got a taste of it on 9/11, but it was inevitable that it would touch us eventually. The people in the Middle East have been fighting for centuries over religious reasons and will continue to do so. I think if you expect Trump to be able to end terrorism you are going to be sadly disappointed. He think everything in his job is a simple fix, but I am afraid he is starting to realize the monumental task it is. Today it is ISIS, tomorrow someone else. It will never go away.

As to your next question, other nations are wondering what the heck we were thinking electing this nutcase to the presidency. Do you really believe they respect him and us as a super power when he tweets like a fool when his authority is questioned? No they do not. They look at us as some kind of experiment in a lab fascinated to see how ti all turns out!

Borders secure? No better or worse than they have been, but building a multi-billion dollar wall will not stop them. I read something the other day that Trump wanted the wall to be transparent because he didn't want anyone to get hit with a 60-pound bad of drugs thrown from the other side by drug dealers trying to smuggle it in - really? My God, this has to make you see that he is so out of touch with this issue that he needs to hand it off to someone who at least lives in this century!

Out economy is coming back - thanks to Obama. These good numbers over the last 6 months are from his hard work and policies - not Trump, as I stated in the first paragraph. Yes, Ancient Rome lasted 1500 years, so I think we have a good long time to go as long as we are careful in the future who we put in charge. We will survive this too! 3 years and 4 months.....

You should write fiction books. Or comedy. - Nice try though.

Hear hear!!! Heartedly agree with original poster. It does indeed help to have a firm grasp on history doesn't it? Most naysayers to this exhibit no grasp or nuance of history and react in a knee jerk fashion. Trump has released the cat out of the bag and a has daily war on facts. He could convince some transcriptionists who believe in him that he'll get their jobs back.

Spanish Proverb, “Take what you want, and pay for it”.

The opposite is hand over your wealth to help the poor or here comes the government to pick your pocket in the name of the poor. This was the whole essence of the last 8 years. "You didn't build that" may have been the catalyst that turned me conservative.

conservatives to be something bad and that Obama was saying business owners did not work hard. If you look at the videos of when it was stated you will CLEARLY see that he meant that any business cannot get there by itself - that it needs help once in a while to grow and prosper. There was a great teacher in your life somewhere that helped you - not that business people do not work hard. That we need to do things together! Taking things out of context does not prove a point - it makes one a bad researcher!
No, he meant the govt was the answer. I had a - business once.

Buraucracy Kills: A lesson from Rome. - "Higher taxes, increasing bureaucracy,

an evermore absolutist state power, a paralysis of local initiative, a growing reliance on a central authority that started with some aspects of a welfare state and ended in full-fledged totalitarianism, with such features as prescribing occupations and fixing wages and prices—such was the unhappy story of Rome’s Decline and Fall.

Does it take much exercise of the imagination to recognize in our own country and our own time some germs, at least, of the political, social, and economic diseases that first sapped and finally destroyed "the grandeur that was Rome"?

"The advocates of the welfare state generally point to Sweden as the model we should follow in the United States, especially for housing....but this fact still remains...the waiting time for an apartment in Stockholm continues to be six to seven years."

BEST DEAR ABBY YET Dear Abby,My husband has a long record of money problems. He runs up huge credit-card bills and at the end of the month, if I try to pay them off, he shouts at me, saying I am stealing his money. He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up with the interest. Also he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lo ...

Is there any way I could pursuade you to add a "frugal living" option to our other talk boards?  With a tight as things are for most MTs, I think it would not only be helpful but fun to be able to share ideas on how to save on and resuse household items.  I know as stapped as we are all sometimes this could prove to be a very helpful category!!  Thanks for you consideration! ...

As there ar every few nays to this suggestion, I'm hoping for a vote to make this a new category.  Everyone, not just MTs, are feeling the pinch nowadays.  It would be wonderful and I believe very, very helpful to compare ideas and suggest sites that help with pinching pennies!!  Even saving $50 a month in cost savings is a big deal today.  Again I hope you find it a positive idea and create a new board for us frugal folks!! ...
