Do President Trump's promises matter at all to anyone? nm

Yes, but people should have known the - promises were lies. sm

Maybe not deliberate. Maybe with his lack of experience he did not realize Congress was never going to let him carry through with those promises, but those promises would get him elected. The President is the Commander in Chief. He actually does not run the whole country. He promised better health coverage, cheaper premiums, for everyone. He promised he would not touch Medicaid. Those voters believed it and should have known better. Congress is not going to let that happen, but they certainly exempted themselves from the current plan being worked on. How are those voters going to feel when their employers no longer have to provide medical coverage for them. They should have known better.

What about that 2000 mile wall that Mexico is going to pay for? Now it is "in some form." Very important detail he left out there. I very seriously doubt Congress is going to go for that either. Last I heard Trump talk about it, it was going to be a wall built out of solar panels. What? I may be missing something but solar panels cannot actually be a wall. If Mexico is going to pay for it, who benefits from the solar energy generated "in some form" that I do not understand.

What about that 35% penalty for companies who offshore jobs? NOT ONE WORD about it, however he is providing those same corporations with big government contracts that the American tax payers are paying for. He could have done this with one signed executive order. Everyone should have known the Republican Congress will never allow this. He is not going to bring any jobs back. They are still leaving. Trump is still doing it. Ivanka is still doing it. I do not believe this was a mistake, but a total lie and again Republicans let him campaign on it to get him elected, knowing it would never happen. I knew it and others should have too. What happened to his renegotiations with NAFTA. Not going to happen.

Where are his tax returns? No, he is not going to show them. Did anyone ever believe he would? Why? Who knows, maybe he is not everything he said he was. Maybe there is definite conflict of interest, which is what I believe. As far as it being about collusion with Russia, maybe but I doubt it. He cannot collude with his own government, how could he collude with Russia?

People must be able to understand first of all what a president can and cannot do. It is not always up to them. Congress is the real problem. Both sides. When you hear campaign promises that sound too good to be true, they usually are. If you look at the issues they campaign on, come to understand why things are the way they are and why they have not changed, historically speaking, it does not matter who is in office.

I believe all of his broken promises are going to gravely affect people who can least afford it and least deserve it, and that is going to include those Republican voters most of all. Just another lying, but inexperienced government politician so he is not very good at it.

Oh, and PS, not fake news. - Trumps own words. nm

At least Obama promised healthcare and fought - and got it through

[ In Reply To ..]
The reason it is failing is because the republicans made sure it did. It didn't matter to them if it was a good thing; they just didn't want it to be a democratic idea. All those brainwashed Trump supporters that don't understand that the ACA would have worked if republicans had done what they were supposed to do and take the expansion and if all the healthy people would have bought insurance will lose with this plan too.

I for one don't believe everything every politician says but I really don't and didn't believe one word that loser in office said. He is and always has been a conman. I am just absolutely disgusted at what is happening to our country in the short time he has been in office. Good Lord, there will be no country left if he's in there for four years.

He got it through in the middle of the night on Christmas. - This was not popular with all

Americans, especially those of us who lost our insurance because of Obama.
If you lost your insurance because of Obama. - Just wait on this plan. I say sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Just wait until you see what happens under the Republican plan in its current form, although I doubt it is going to pass. If it does, we are all screwed. People, whether you are R or D, you can stop attacking the other side. Neither side is going to come up with an acceptable health care plan. In order for any plan by anyone to work, EVERYONE has to participate whether they like it or not. This is the definition of "insurance," but there will not be a middle ground. This is why we are definitely headed toward national healthcare whether we like it or not. Too many people going without coverage (mainly because they cannot afford it) or because they believe they do not need it, or sadly, many dying for lack of health care is going to push us in that direction. The insurance companies will be funding a fight against that for a long time to come. I truly don't know if I agree with that or not. Hoping that Obama care will be repealed but not replaced. Yes, it does need drastic changes. Once that is done, if insurance companies understood that it is they who have to lose some profit and cooperate, OR we will move to national health care, maybe things will change. Obama's ideas were good, but not everyone would agree or cooperate, and of course corporations want to provide the least amount of coverage they can, and insurance companies want the most amount of money they can get, as they have become so accustomed to. The whole system needs re-hauling and we are going to have to start looking at what other countries successfully do. And using that logic, the president, every Congress member, and every state government position will have to be required to use the same coverage that they pass for everyone else, no exceptions. No government body should be allowed to except themselves from having they same coverage that they pass for us. Only then will we have decent health care.

I only disagree - with the part

that it was not deliberate and he had no experience - he knew! He knew just what to say and who to say it to just to get elected. His supporters keep saying what a savvy businessman he is - you can't have it both ways. He is either stupid or brilliant! I know that all politicians are corrupt no some way or the other, but this guy is blatantly abusing the system in order to make a profit and his supporters don't seem to care! The senate healthcare bill is just a way to loosen up money to give back to their benefactors as a tax cut. There will be very little for us and we will not be able to afford health insurance, so maybe then we will see how his supporters love him then! I wonder if he and all of his rich buddies have taken into account that if they keep doing what they are doing - who will be left to clean their toilets?

The reason I say maybe he did not know is - sm

We are talking about a very egotistical person here. He is used to people bowing down to him, and certainly maybe thought they would if he were president. Just giving his inexperience the benefit of the doubt that maybe he did not know government does not work like that. He DOES NOT make all the decisions, no matter what he promised. Again, he is Commander in Chief first and foremost. Many of the promises he made were not his to make. Bring jobs back? Renegotiating NAFTA? He simply cannot do that. People should know that. Yes, I do believe he and his 1% friends are benefitting greatly from him being elected, but that would have happened (with the 1% anyway) no matter who was elected. Perhaps his supporters do not understand how much power Congress has, and the president cannot do whatever he wants. Perhaps even Trump himself thought that would change if HE was president. He quickly found out, HE does not matter. This is what we call checks and balances. Unfortunately things are balanced by a Congress that is more corrupt probably than Trump.

His Muslim ban was shot down repeatedly. He was shocked and appalled by that. Because he is Trump. Again, he thinks everyone should jump when he says so. That is what he is used to. The Supreme court is only allowing people from those 6 countries not to come in if they have no friends, relatives, jobs, school in the U.S. If people have no ties in the U.S. they will not come in until the case is heard in the fall. I can agree with that. So what was his victory? He wanted a 90 day ban to study the vetting process. By the time it gets to court in the fall, they are going to tell him he has had more than 90 days already, what of his study?? If he doesn't come up with more than he has now, they cannot support him. I wonder if he even believes that.

You may very well be right, everything is deliberate. Even knowing, it did not change him promising the world during his campaign. EGO!! I am sure he was probably told different. His own fact checkers would ask him to stop making statements that were not true, but he kept right on saying them and his supports kept right on believing him. Would anyone in their right mind believe that he was going to stop offshoring? Yes, they want it to happen, but legally he cannot do that, but he kept right on saying it, and Congress let him (even though they would not allow it) just to get him elected.
