I am going to share because I think you

Amy Austin Dunham: "I'm a bit late chiming in about the cop who was acquitted of murdering Philandro Castile, I know, but I am going to add my thoughts anyway. I watched the newly released dashcam video several times, along with Diamond Reynolds' video, which I have seen several times as well. We have two different videos to watch and put all together as best as possible. Never did I see a reason to pull a gun on him, let alone shoot him. He was killed because the cop was scared of him, but why? He was killed because of his skintone. The officer had asked for Philandro's ID and insurance card, that was what Philandro was getting for the cop. He made it absolutely clear he had a firearm. If he was intending to do any harm he wouldn't have told the cop he had a gun. This makes me so sick to the stomach. We are sending a message to cops that it's OK to be scared of someone who is black, and hell, it is apparently "self-defense" if you kill them because you are scared. And what gets me, what shakes me to the core, is that Diamond complied and even called the cop "sir". She remained calm. She had just witnessed her boyfriend get shot SEVEN times, her child was in the back seat. Yet she remained calm, compliant and respectful. She remembered her training, so why couldn't the officer? And that sweet baby girl who has undoubtedly been traumatized. She tells her mom to cooperate so she wouldn't get shot. She was 4 when she saw this horrific event. I hope she is doing okay." #BlackLivesMatter ____________ I don’t want my black baby boy to be born. After watching the video of murdered Philando Castille fiancée’s daughter begging with her mom not to take her handcuffs off, because she did not want her mom the be “shooted”, that was more than I could bear. I looked at my protruding belly and pled with God to keep my black unborn baby in my belly where I can protect him. As I watched that video of this precious little girl, I couldn’t help but be reminded that most of our black children have not only lost their sense of innocence, but are also asked to showcase maturity far beyond their still developing little brains should be able to comprehend. I don’t want my black baby boy to be born. As I proudly carry this black baby boy around, I can’t help but acknowledge the fear I’m starting to feel as my unavoidable due date is approaching. That fear sends shivers down my back. A pregnant white woman carrying a white baby can never understand that insidious fear I’m talking about. Watching that video of that innocent baby girl, pleading, begging and then bargaining with her mother in order to save her mother from what she conceived to be her impending death, was too much for this pregnant mom. I don’t want my black baby boy to be born. Because I know that the moment my baby will leave the comfort, warmth, and safety of my womb, I won’t be able to protect him from this unjust, bias, and prejudice society. From that moment on, he will be viewed as a black man, regardless of what his economic status may be. Having an accountant as a mother and a white lawyer as a father, will not insulate him from racism and prejudice. Even though my child will be of mixed heritage, he will be viewed my most and especially by the criminal justice system as a “black” man, with all that entails. The moment my child will be born that fear will become real. Unfortunately, this heartbreaking video perfectly crystalizes all the fear most black mothers know all so well. The fear for the safety of our black children, living in a society where they are not allowed to be children, just because they are black. I don’t want my black baby boy to be born. Because, we live in a society where being “Black” is a justifiable reason for “Whites” to murder you if they fear for their lives. I’m not a psychiatrist, a psychologist or a sociologist, I’m just a mother expecting a black child. Unfortunately, that makes me as qualified as any licensed professionals to assert that this constant subjugation of our black children, is undoubtedly altering their psyche. And creating children growing with some form of PTSD. All I know is, watching that heart wrenching video made me realized that I don’t want my black baby boy to leave the security of my womb. Who could blame me? I'LL keep you posted with more comments. I feel many of you need to read this perspective;

The video I viewed showed Castille continue to reach - anon

and I am sure the officer is not a mind reader and did not know what Castille was reaching for. The jury that listened to and viewed all evidence obviously felt the officer was within his duty to fire.

Although I did not "need" to read this perspective, I did and my mind has not changed at all. The officer felt his life was in danger and the jury agreed.

Oh and the garbage that all black mothers fear for their kids due to cops is nothing more than a lie - they fear for their kids lives due to gang violence and black-on-black crime. Morgan Freeman just came out to state that BLM is essentially a farce and until blacks stop murdering each other, nothing will change. Smart man.

I'm sure he did...probably fears for his life everytime - He stops a POC because he is

[ In Reply To ..]
A RACIST. He fears POC.

As stated in the pregnancy post...she fears for her child being the victim of police. I don't think black on black is particularly applicable for children of professionals. They fear racists who assume by color certain behaviors. More important is locale perhaps. Heaven forbid the child is on the wrong block or is "slumming" with lower income kids...who happen to be black.

It is a FACT that police react differently when stopping whites than blacks. The police are much more likely to murder a black person. IMO they do this out of fear...FEAR FOR THEIR RACIST LIVES.

Well, considering the cop is, himself, a person of color you have no argument - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Or are you one of those people feel that only whites are racist? You do realize what that makes you, don't you? Lol, never mind, you likely don't see it.
That wouldn't negate the argument, but - The cop in Castille murder was white
[ In Reply To ..]
No anyone can be racist against any race. Prerequisite is not starting a certain color
Cop is First Nation - you know, American Indian? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Therefore, person of color.

Jury got it right. - Give it a rest.

Enjoy something special this weekend. Please.

Don't you love how people who did not see the evidence - anon

to which the jury was privy makes assumptions? Just proves the point those who allow themselves to be ruled purely by emotion cannot truly reason.

Anyone watching the dash recording can see this officer - panicked and even in his mumbling afterwards

[ In Reply To ..]
one can tell he knew then and there he screwed up. Thank God, his own department has relieved him of his job.

Just like OJ's jury got it right. This cop will live - the rest of his life with this.

At least police department not bringing him back. - They obvious saw his crazy

reaction and response to this situation. I certainly would not want him patrolling in my town based on his own recording of the situation. He clearly is not level-headed. His own reaction afterwards is all telling, he's in no way in control. Not a good look for him. While a jury may have found him not guilty, anyone viewing the footage is going to be hard pressed to find a positive in hiring him to protect their citizens.

Has Anyone Ever Used A Midwife? Care To Share?Jan 05, 2010
Just found out my daughter is pregnant (her second).  The first experience was so bad for her.  Hypoxemia, induction gone wrong, emergency C-section, anesthesiologist actually threatening her, and the baby had jaundice at a dangerous level that no one even noticed until I made them test him (he went home with a light vest and home health nurse), all of which was reported to the hospital administrator and so on.  Bad memories. Time Share NightmareSep 08, 2012
My stepfather purchased a time share property many years ago.  I think he and my mom used it a total of three times. For years now he has been attempting to sell the time share.  Three years ago I went with him to meet with a representative who told my SF the property was now out of his name.  (After my SF gave him a check that day for $4,000.)   It never happened.  Two and one-half years ago I took a phone call up at the house when he was not home.  ...

I have been asked on many occasions if I could show people how to do what I do because "I know you make a ton of money".  Today, that comment is good for a never ending laugh!  I did want to share my two favorites.  Driving through the local Burger King, the gal that handed me my food asked me what I did for a living.  I love this part- I told her and she said, "oh, how nice".  When I gave her a little more detail, she said she was SURE she could do it.  Her mom wo ...

Share Pea Soup RecipesOct 13, 2014
I'd like to share my pea soup recipe, and would like other ideas as well. I don't measure things, so just use your own judgment, likes/dislikes. Use a very heavy pot like an enamel pot or dutch oven. First, I take some olive oil, heat it, then sautee up some chopped garlic, onions, celery and carrots. I remove them from the pan when they're done, add a little more olive oil, then brown up a ham steak really well. Let the bottom of the pot get brown. (You can cube the ham steak ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...

Hubby and I bought a new mattress over the weekend, it is a Serta Memory Foam mattress.  We actually purchased this at Big Lots of all places, regular $1000.00 and we paid $400.00.  I have had problems with my back for the last several years and generally toss, turn and wake up several times during the night, to the point of finally giving up, getting up and getting on the sofa.  Last night I was extremely skeptical, went to bed and when I laid down on the mattress I felt like I w ...
