On obamacare insurance companies pulling out

Posted: Jun 22, 2017

Obamacare allows people to wait until they get sick to sign up. That's no different than waiting until my house burns down to sign up for homeowners insurance or waiting until I wreck my car to get car insurance.I understand that there are a lot of people who don't own a house or a car and maybe are unfamiliar with how insurance works.  It is "insurance" which means insuring against what might happen. Allowing people to wait until they are sick means the insurance company is basically paying for the person's medical care. It doesn't make good business sense for an insurance company. Designed to fail.

The ones who failed to get insurance under - the ACA are a big part

why they are pulling out. Where did you come up with "Obamacare allows people to wait until they get sick to sign up?" Under the ACA, everybody was supposed to buy insurance but the whiners who felt nobody can tell them what to do are what is contributing to these companies pulling out. You were supposed to get insurance whether you were healthy or not.

If you don't get insurance you have to pay a fine? What - are you talking about whiners?

[ In Reply To ..]
Since when does the federal govt have the constitutional right to force a citizen to purchase something? THEY DON'T!

We have our own alternatives to O'care.

So you are saying that those of us who had our rates skyrocket - because of Obamacare are whiners

[ In Reply To ..]
and now we are even more so because don't want to pay for other people's subsidies?

No, I'm saying the ones who did not get insurance - and the pub govs. that

[ In Reply To ..]
did not take the expansion that caused your insurance rates to skyrocket are the whiners.
Again, poorly informed - Nothing new here

Many younger people in their 20s and 30s did not buy into - it because it costs too much.
[ In Reply To ..]
Why should a healthy 20 YO pay such high premiums to fund subsidies for others as well as the Medicare tax?

Costs are too high for people to - sm - tiredmt

participate in the exchange. The rates go up as much as 50% in some markets each year (Ours 27% this year). The problem is they depend on people like me who don't qualify for the subsidies to help carry the burden for everyone. I'm losing my insurance at the end of the month and I can't afford to pay for the insurance through the exchange and I don't qualify for subsidies. My premium would be $642 with a $6600 deductible for myself so I'll go without and sign up if I get really ill. The penalty is much cheaper. I hope the Repubs get off the butts and do something about this garbage.

We just decided to pay the penalty. Those getting subsidies - don't care about that, do they?

So you have no coverage in the event of a major illness? - nm

We belong to a direct pay health clinic and have a HSA - for major medical.

Of course it would fail. When a company has to pay out - for everything including the kitchen sink,

[ In Reply To ..]
that's not insurance. They were banking on young people signing up but not getting sick. That didn't happen because it was unaffordable since the govt forced insurance companies to cover EVERYTHING even if you don't need it, like maternity coverage.

This is why they are going broke (as designed). Then the left can say, see we need single payer, which is what the other poster compared it to the Illinois lottery. It's not sustainable

Some of you still just don't get it. If everybody - would have got insurance

[ In Reply To ..]
and all the states would have taken the expansion, it wouldn't have been a failure and companies wouldn't be pulling out and rates wouldn't have jumped like they did.

We do need single payer. We'll see how well we do under a plan by republicans that plans to cut Medicaid and gives states the right to charge an arm and leg for insurance for people with preexisting conditions and are old. Hope all of you have no preexisting conditions and are young.

You don't get it. The govt cannot force a citizen to purchase - something. Obama tried by imposing

[ In Reply To ..]
a penalty. It's all just another tax.

What if the govt decides you have to purchase food insurance or something else? When does it end?

Obamacare is Medicaid. We already pay for that. We - don't knee the government taxing us

[ In Reply To ..]
again (telling us to purchase something) if we don't want it. This is socialism.

There you have it folks. We should have bought extremely - expensive insurance plans so she will get

[ In Reply To ..]
her ACA subsidies.

Got it.
No you don't have it. Not by a long shot. - You bought extremely
[ In Reply To ..]
expensive insurance because your governor most likely didn't take the expansion and people didn't buy insurance.

By the way, I don't get subsidies. I'm not thinking of just me, I'm thinking of the people who can't afford the insurance because of the above-stated reasons.
You STILL DON'T' GET IT. BEFORE OBAMACARE - there were already 500+
[ In Reply To ..]
govt agencies and services available for THOSE THAT COULD NOT AFFORD HEALTH CARE. They covered everything from transportation to get services, FREE MEDICAL CARE, drugs, food, housing, etc.
Obamacare did not do away with any of those programs, just added another boondoggle on top of that to try and collapse the system.

Yeah - CLEAR YOU DO NOT GET IT, nor did you bother to educate yourself on the 500+ programs already in place.

You still do not get it! Play with YOUR health insurance - and leave mine alone

[ In Reply To ..]
Nobody is buying the socialist dog food the Liberal Fascists are selling. Here's a thought...why don't you just pay for my health insurance, as well as 5 others on this board out of your pocket? That is exactly what you expect from others.

Dear MoveOn member, Blue Cross has just announced that it's immediately raising premiums charged to hundreds of thousands of individual customers by as much as 39%—even though their parent company's profits soared to a record $4.7 billion last year.1 Even worse, the insurer has so far refused to explain why they're increasing their rates, and warned that they might do so again this year without warning. ACA Requiring Companies To Provide Insurance To Workers Of 30 Hours Or More Per Week.Jan 14, 2014
I just learned that under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) companies with greater than 50 employees are required to offer insurance to all employees who work an average of 30 or greater hours per week.  My company offers us insurance but you have to meet a production requirement consistently in order to qualify for this, and I know a lot of MTs struggle with this production requirement and therefore even if they work 35-plus hours per week they may not make the production requirement to earn a ...

Obamacare Fines For Not Having InsuranceJan 17, 2014
I don't have insurance and have not looked into the exchanges yet. Even with my low income I am sure I would qualify for some subsidy, but I just haven't done it yet. But they exaggerate. The law — the bulk of which has yet to be implemented — has caused only about a 1 percent to 3 percent increase in premiums, according to several independent experts. Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...
