Having a basic income would allow you to look for better work or study to be able to obtain better employment or start a business. Some already receive a basic income from the government. It comes with many strings and stigma and multiple layers of bureaucracy. This would be a no-strings attached kind of payment, much cheaper to administer. If the program is well implemented, it can be very successful. There was a pilot study in the province of Manitoba in the late 1960s that was quite successful (Mincome). The province of Ontario is trialing basic income in three cities as a test. Time to look further into this idea.
