Triggering pinky

Posted: Apr 22, 2017

After 20 years of transcription, always working ergonomically and being very mindful of back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, etc. I have started to have issues with my left (nondominant hand) pinky involving itself in "extracurricular activities" without my permission. It will lock flexed. It will refuse to straighten without loud, painful popping and, perhaps most annoying, has suddenly developed an intense fear of the tab key and simply refuses to go there without much coaxing. I can only guess what it does to my line count but now it's starting to hurt. Anyone else out there with a triggering pinky that has been SUCCESSFULLY treated? Any ideas (short of amputation) are greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

I have had trigger fingers on both pinky fingers due to transcription as well as just plain hard work on our small farm. I tried splints, etc. but the only thing that truly works is a cortisone injection. I suggest you see an orthopedic and have this done. It really works well and I needed 2 in my right hand but only 1 injection in my left. This was the only thing that worked. Give it a try!

I had a locking thumb. I did the cortisone injections and that worked but was concerned about repeated steroid injections (I was going back every 6 months or so). It was suggested to me to try acupuncture. I did and it worked just as well as cortisone and I do not need to go back as often. The initial treatment took a few weeks to work, but then the results lasted much longer and without steroids! A word of warning though...find an acupuncturist with a very good reputation, as I have been to some that are not worth your time.

Sore Pinky FingerSep 29, 2010
Anyone else ever have trouble with their pinky finger getting really sore? My pinky finger has been really sore lately. A couple of weeks ago it got all swollen and turned blue.  I didn't injure it at all.  I went to the doctor and she said I had broken a blood vessel and put a splint on it for a few days.  She insisted that I must have injured it and forgot, but I know I didn't (I think I would have bigger problems if that were the case.)  It got better after I was ...
