lost your faith... do you really truly wonder why your lives are falling apart? do you really wonder why you are losing everything? It is not just because the MT world is falling apart, believe me. If you still had your faith or even developed it now, your world would change its colors. God is not going to help someone who does not believe in Him. He is not just some "sky fairy" made up to abuse children or others and keep people brainwashed. He is real. He exists, and if you practice gratitude for what you DO have, things would improve for you. I pray for your misunderstood souls! ;

I have had faith all my life, growing up in - Catholic environment.

I lost my son at the age of 23. He was a wonderful delightful person. If God is good and I and my son were children of God, why did He take him and cause so much pain and suffering in our family.

As a matter of fact, I watch commercials for St. Jude Hospital with tragic families watching children dying of cancer. Why does this happen? If God is good and loving, how does he allow so much suffering?

I had an agnostic friend who years ago when bad things happened to good people said "God" is playing Barbie dolls with his "people".

Ask and you shall receive, I am in dire straits financially, lost my home because of cuts in pay. I prayed and prayed. Lost all the equity and savings in my home. I was grateful for my home. Now I live in a cheap rental. Why does God allow this to happen?

I believe that we are being tested - to see if we are able to

handle our burdens and problems with steadfastness and grace. If that is God's doing or just the luck of the draw, I don't pretend to know, but I do believe we must deal with what we are given as best we can and that is our reward. I too lost a son, and I learned that I could comfort other people. I guess we just have to carry on.

So if we do not handle burdens and problems and lose - faith in our "father" who allowed such p

Are we doomed to hell?

I just do not understand how God can "test" his faithful, the children he created in his likeness and cause such pain in their lives.

I can't truthfully comfort others any more.

Not everyone follows the Christian path. Can you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that God exists, that he does everything you say he'll do? He didn't for me and now I'm much happier in a non-traditional faith. BTW, my soul is NOT misunderstood, thank you very much.

Speaking of misunderstood souls, who is misunderstanding? - All powerful God our "father"?

So if things go wrong for us, it must be our fault for lack of faith?

What this whole bible/religious/faith farce reminds me of is a bad fairy tale like Hansel and Gretel or Snow White.

Wish I had faith again but as far as I am concerned my loving "father" who created me in his likeness has really failed me and it is not because I had a lack of faith. In spite of my faith, He allowed horrible things happen to me and my loved ones as well as billions of other people who are suffering all over the world.

Crickets? No answers? - Typical.

those who come on the "faith" board and bash those who do have "faith" and believe in God. This board does not say "non-believers feel free to bash those who do." So sad.

Faith does not mean just the Christian faith. It can mean any faith - Judaism, Hinduism, Wiccan, etc. In my case, I'm a Druid and I'm very strong in my faith, so just because I don't believe as you do doesn't mean I'm a "non-believer."

This thread started with someone bashing those - who had "misunderstood souls"

and if only they believed properly like the real faithful they would receive protection - as if they did something wrong to cause unfortunate things happen in their lives.

Look around you. I am quite sure there is suffering inflicted on the faithful who do believe around the world. Are you saying they might not be as faithful as they should be and are now suffering because of this?

This reminds me of saying to someone, "there but for the grace of God go I" as if the person who had something horrific happen to them did not have God's grace and therefore deserved what they got. Does God really pick and choose who gets grace?

There is NO god. I'm sorry. God was made up long, long ago in order to "keep people in line." Back before there was no prison/jail. They were told if they sinned they would not go to heaven. Please. If there WERE a god, you are telling me he would not help someone simply because they did not "believe" in him? Give me a break! A "fairy in the sky" is more believable than that.

If God made us and we are children of God - what parent would allow their child to suffer?

[ In Reply To ..]
I am so sorry, I had such faith for years but now I feel like with all the evil going on in the world, why would an almighty God allow his faithful to suffer - and suffering is going on by the faithful and unfaithful.

I do not care if my child disliked me or disapproved of me, I could not allow them to suffer. As a matter of fact, as a loving person, I could not allow any human to suffer if I had the power to alleviate it.

why so much suffering on this earth? - moi

God never intended for things to be like this. After sin reared its ugly head, then God allowed it to play out for the whole universe to see the results of sin. If he had wiped it out immediately, then he would have come across as a dictator, not allowing free choice. But, God has his limits. If you read prophecy in the Bible at all, you will discover that this too will end, enough will be enough. Evil will be eradicated finally and Jesus will come to take his people to heaven. There is much more, but this is a partial answer to the question you asked.
Thank you for trying to explain what I find - unexplainable.

I still find this bible stuff contradictory and a bit like complex tax return with ifs, ands and buts mixed with a Grimm fairy tale quality.

One thing I noted in the bible was Jesus said I come that you have life more abundantly. There is nothing abundant about poverty and violence many are suffering.

The other thing in the bible I have a hard time with is ask and you shall receive, etc. I have asked and have not received.

And all of this evil is the result of a serpent (devil) tricking Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden? Why did God even allow that? Why did he not protect his creation knowing what this would lead to?

You certainly have not spent the time the study the Bible, its origins, etc. etc. There is so much more to it all than "keeping people in line" and the idea of heaven and hell. I suggest you do some more reading- sorry you feel this way. You are certainly missing out.

You are what is wrong with Christianity today - Christian Lady

[ In Reply To ..]
Most of my life I heard the same sort of thing from church people. Just follow what God says in the Bible and do what He leads you to do, things will go well with you.

That is called health and wealth Christianity.

You try to guilt people doing this and thus exalt yourself saying you have followed God and we have not. That is very hypocritical.

It is very hard for those of us who have lost things to believe when we did as you all did, as God says in his Word and as He led us.

Please spare these good people who are hurting from having the wounds re-opened. This is not scriptural either. Show me a scripture that says this.

God does not abandon those who question their faith. We have all had our faith tested in our life time, and some just feel that God has forgotten them. Not true. When Peter started to walk toward Jesus on the sea and the wind came up, he lost faith and began to sink. Jesus said to him "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" But, then he held out his hand to catch him. Peter lost his faith but Jesus did not let him drown. We will all suffer in this life, as we were not promised a rose garden but we were promised by Jesus that he would be with us through all things, good and bad, forever, even until the end of the age. We suffer because evil is very much alive in this world, set loose by the original sin in the Garden of Eden. Some of our bad times can be caused by ourselves, lack of good decisions, and failing to ask God for guidance, relying on our own ideas and pathways. We suffer because we live in a fallen world where sin reigns in the hearts of men. We suffer because of our own foolishness. We reap what we sow. We sometimes suffer because it is God’s discipline.
One mentioned the children seen at St. Jude's,suffering from cancer at such young ages. When we were kids, such a disease in young children rarely existed. Why now? Blame God? How about the choices made beyond our control by those that threaten the health of children and the rest of us, for that matter. What foods were eaten during pregnancy. What dangerous contaminants did they contain, what type of drinking water was consumed, smoking, alcohol, drugs taken with birth defects.. God gave man free will. It is what we do with that gift that makes all the difference in this world, from those who through greed and selfishness perform corrupt and evil deeds which endanger even young children to those who decide to drive drunk and kill our innocent loved ones. God is with us through all that we experience, if we go to him, pray, ask for his strength and also the ability to understand our suffering. Suffering makes us strong and builds character and integrity, so we can pass that encouragement to others who are suffering as well. Bad things happen to good people all the time and God weeps with that knowledge, right along with us. We are his children, and like our own children, we go off on our own thinking we know best, only to discover not so much. Therefore, our suffering becomes our discipline.

So, to the OP above, do not judge others, lest you be judged. Your self-righteous flavor to your post does not bring those lacking faith due to suffering back to God. God is love and as Christians we are to love each other and proclaim God's love to all. I am Catholic. I have been tested throughout my life with my husband's cancer, my mother's loss of eye sight, my father's life long drug addiction, and yes I have felt lost at times, too. But through prayer, tears, listening for God's words to me, and hanging onto my faith, I have made it through. I now offer that same saving grace to all here, through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, who on this day, Good Friday, all those years ago, hung on a piece of wood, suffered what we cannot begin to imagine, and died, to pay the penalty for all who believe in him. He rose again, victorious over death and all the evil that roams the earth today, to assure us of his presence, even until the end of time. God Bless everyone! Happy Easter!

My post above is in reply to the OP of this thread. However, it may also be applicable to the others here as well. Just wanted to be clear. Thanks.

I do not get all this testing. What about Jesus - saying ask and you shall receive?

[ In Reply To ..]
In a way you are blaming contaminants for cancer and children suffering. My question is why does God allow this? Then there are people who through no fault of their own are born into poverty. God's choice? It is not free will to be poor.

I have disagreed with my children's decisions throughout their growing up but NEVER IN A BAZILLION YEARS would I want them to suffer, not even for a minute.

We are told we are children of God, made in His likeness. How does God not protect his children. Ask and you shall receive EXCEPT, MAYBE, PERHAPS, PASS THE TEST, JUMP THROUGH HOOPS, WRONG APPROACH, ETC.

Free Will - Laurie

[ In Reply To ..]
None of us want to suffer, but through our own free will and the choices we or others make, we do. From the moment original sin occurred, Satan was alive and well, and he still is today. Only when Jesus returns again will all things be made new and evil shall no longer exist. When I used the food sources that we eat that are known to contain carcinogens and thus, could easily affect the health of unborn children, it was a very small example of evil in this world. Some large food chains, whose bottom line is always the dollars they make, do not care about the health of their customers. For example, Subway rolls were finally, after years and years, discovered to contain azodicarbonamide (material similar to that used in rubber mats on gym floors) to maintain their freshness! Now that they were exposed, you will note that in most good quality breads in the grocery store, this substance is no longer in the ingredient list. This is just one of millions examples of the free will of those who will do as they please for whatever reason that benefits them. The world is full of these individuals, companies, organizations, etc. who choose on a daily basis to do wrong.

You are correct when you state that people through no fault of their own are born into poverty. How many choices led to their poverty, of no fault of their own? There are certain classes of people who make a living by receiving welfare. By their choosing to do so, instead of working, generations have followed suit, thus accepting this as a way of life, but there are those who have decided to choose a different path, have worked hard to get an education and move on and upward out of such an existence. Look at Ben Carson, a pediatric neurosurgeon, who was poor but had a mother who wanted more for him, and so it was her choice that made it possible for him to become the wonderful doctor that he was. Her free will to choose.

Why did God give people, including Adam and Eve, free will if He knew that we would mess up, make the wrong decisions, and ultimately reject Him?

Free will is a blessing and a curse. God has given all of us the absolute ability to makes choices in life. We have the ability to choose good or evil, right or wrong, self or others. Unfortunately, from the beginning of time, we have chosen evil quite often. Many argue that mankind is generally good. Actually, mankind is generally bad. Just look at history. Just look at small children (we don't have to teach them how to steal cookies or strike siblings).

Why did God give us free will then? Wouldn't it have been easier and nicer to create mankind as inherently good. Well, God's purpose with mankind is to have eternal fellowship with those who truly love Him. Therefore, to create us as inherently good robots, without the potential for the opposite character, evil, would not allow for true love. For only love that comes from a free choice of the will is TRUE LOVE. Voluntary choice is the key - love isn't genuine if there's no other option.

But how can man, limited by a sinful nature, ever choose what is good? It is only through the grace and power of God that free will truly becomes “free” in the sense of being able to choose salvation (John 15:16). It is the Holy Spirit who works in and through a person’s will to regenerate that person (John 1:12-13) and give him/her a new nature “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). Salvation is God’s work. At the same time, our motives, desires, and actions are voluntary, and we are rightly held responsible for them.

When asking for God’s help, always ask for his will to be done, not your own. Tell him what you need. God already knows all that we need, but he needs us to ask him, as we would our own father for help. If you trust in his will to be the greatest thing for you, it will happen. If you are having financial problems, health problems, whatever it may be, pray and let him know. Then ask for “thy will be done” not my own and see what happens. We do not have to “jump through hoops” to have God’s help and love. We cannot earn his love, because it is free. We cannot earn salvation, because it is free through Jesus who paid the penalty for all of our sins.

There will be a new world one day, and that is when Jesus returns and makes all things new. There will be no more evil as Satan will be destroyed. No more pain, tears, anxiety, depression, illness. Only peace and surrounded by love for God and each other. I pray that day soon comes and as we ask during the Lord’s prayer, “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” will finally be answered.
