The news on PBS is nothing but garbage from the left.

I would say that Sesame Street and other kids programs would be able to replace some of the nonsense on TV today for kids.

Anyway, if PBS radio and TV stations were not so leftist, this might not have happened.

I wish leftists would stop thinking the whole world has to abide by their thinking and their laws, etc. I cannot stand what has happened to our country and I think a lot of people in the world are now just waking up and realizing how the left in their country are changing their countries.

I've done that - more times than I can count

You don't know what you are talking about and I don't think you watch much public television. British drama series, concerts, plays, cooking shows, travel shows, history and biography, it would be missed. My local station runs Saturday night cinema where they show classic films. Their news programs are actually first rate and mainstream. Sesame Street and children's programs are only a small portion of what they offer.

PBS and NPR only get a small amount of government funding, mostly from the Endowment for the Arts. Most of the operating budget comes from private donors and foundations and also from viewers. So if you enjoy their TV and radio program, became a donor, which you can do by going to their website. I've been a sustaining member for years and have them take $12 a month from my Visa. I'm thinking about increasing it. If you watch PBS TV and listen to your local public radio station even a few hours a week you should donate. It will only cost you the equivalent of 3 or 4 cups of coffee bought at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. So make your coffee at home and contribute to some of the best broadcasting in America.

Nothing but common sense in your post. Thank you. :) - anon

want the government to pay for my entertainment. Like I said in my above post, Public TV and radio only gets a small amount of funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and some from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The bulk of funding comes from private foundations, philanthropists, and viewers. If you like and enjoy it, you can donate as a viewer. If you don't, then don't donate and don't watch it either because you'll then be freeloading on the backs of those of us who do donate. It's amazing how many people actually think that public TV and radio is run by the government. IT IS NOT. Get your facts straight.

Addendum to my above post...SM - Old Anon

If you are a fan of PBS/NPR and do donate, I would consider increasing your donation just in case this proposed defunding does happen. Also, if you do enjoy it and don't donate, consider doing so. You can give a one-time donation in any amount or donate monthly like I do. I am going to increase my donation from $12 per month to $20 per month, which I think is well worth it because of the enjoyment and knowledge I gain from it.

Public broadcasting - Some thoughts

[ In Reply To ..]
I am not sure how many tax dollars currently go to support this. Prior to many programs now, they show some kind of advertising. I use their video streaming service and had to make a contribution to have access to all of the programs. Then there are the pledge drives and the support from private foundations, they'll find a way to survive. I like their programming and I remember in my junior high and high school days when the Nixon administration made the same threat, it never happened.

Ending "too Big To Fail"?Nov 11, 2009
The anti-monopoly laws in the US are weak. Large corporations are multi-conglomerates. Put the two together and you have companies that are "too big to fail" without taking too many people (as in jobs, personal savings, and such) down with them. Thoughts on the legislation to correct the formations of such behemoths?  I'm not crazy about ignoring the issue and letting the market cure itself. To me, that seems like passing the problem off on later generations because I don't ...

Public Option Hot Again?Oct 12, 2009
The group, America's Health Insurance Plans, released a report claiming that the new health care reform bill will drive up insurance premiums because not everyone will be forced into the system. Without a very large pool that includes healthy people, the insurance companies insist, they will have to pay out too much. (I'm crying crocodile tears here.) This might bring the public option back strongly if the dems finally say, "Enough of this crap!" We can only hope. NJ ...

Why Illinois Is In Trouble, 63,000 Public Employees WithJul 26, 2017
Illinois is broke and continues to flirt with junk bond status. But the state’s financial woes aren’t stopping 63,000 government employees from bringing home six-figure salaries and higher. Whenever we open the books, Illinois is consistently one of the worst offenders. Recently, we found auto pound supervisors in Chicago making $144,453; nurses at state corrections earning up to $254,781; junior college presidents making $465,420; university doctors earning $1.6 million; and 84 small-to ...

Eight False Things The Public Knows Prior To Election Day:Oct 26, 2010
Dave Johnson has written a very handy piece called: Eight False Things The Public “Knows” Prior To Election Day: 1) President Obama tripled the deficit. Reality: Bush's last budget had a $1.416 trillion deficit. Obama's first reduced that to $1.29 trillion. 2) President Obama raised taxes, which hurt the economy. Reality: Obama cut taxes. 40% of the "stimulus" was wasted on tax cuts which only create debt, which is why it was so much less effective than it could have be ...
