Which do you think would be

Posted: Feb 21, 2017

building a wall or just hiring more border patrol?  To me, it seems that a wall would not stop illegals coming into this country since they are finding many other ways to get over here such as being smuggled in trucks, digging tunnels and no matter how high they build a wall, they will just get taller ladders.  Just hiring more border patrol, better checks at checkpoints into the US would be much more helpful and save tax payers a whole lot of money.

Even if the president puts a tariff on goods, we will still end up paying for the wall.  Wouldn't it be better just to provide jobs and  hire more border patrol?

Thoughts or other ideas on this would be nice.

I think the answers would vary depending on where you live. I don't live in a border state and therefore I'm against the wall simply because I don't want to be the one paying for it. I think if you ask those who live in border states, they have a very different view, which is fair. I think many don't think the patrols are enough, but would the wall be? I don't know if there's an easy fix, but the creation of jobs in that area would be great.

That is very - true

I would like to see an opinion from someone who does live in a border state. Since I also don't live in one, how and why do you feel a wall would help more than drastically increasing border patrol, better searches at road crossings, etc.?

I live in a border state, - New Mexico

I don't feel it is going to do what a lot of people hope it will. Like you said, they have been building tremendous tunnels for years all along the border to smuggle drugs in. They are very creative in smuggling things in inside vehicles. If people want to come, they will. I have lived here 40+ years and I don't see some of the issues that are being talked about with huge criminal activity. Actually much of this activity is perpetrated by regular citizens. I have known many illegal aliens from Mexico and South America in school and later on in life and they are some of the most hard working, loving, polite, and humble people I have ever met. Many of them are generous when they have little or nothing. If a friend needs something, they are there for them. Just like regular people who are born here, some are good and some are bad. I hate to see the good ones being turned away, but I do agree something needs to be done to make sure people come in the correct way. I just don't see a wall as fitting that bill.

I would like to see someone who wants - the wall

and would share why they believe it would help. It is nice to get different opinions and the reasons for those opinions.
