Our jobs returning?

Posted: Jan 30, 2017

"In his immigration proposal released during the campaign, he argued for increasing wages under the program and requiring companies to seek U.S. workers first. This order would do just that.

“Our country’s immigration policies should be designed and implemented to serve, first and foremost, the U.S. national interest,” the draft proposal says, according to Bloomberg. “Visa programs for foreign workers … should be administered in a manner that protects the civil rights of American workers and current lawful residents, and that prioritizes the protection of American workers – our forgotten working people – and the jobs they hold.”

So sorry.

It's a start, but - Law

Thank you for posting and the link.

This is a great start in the right direction, but I honestly don't think it will impact MT much.

1) Hospital jobs went bye-bye secondary to the EHR. Do you really think hospitals are going to repay the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS in bribes that the BO administration paid them to make the switch to EHR and lay off the MTs?
The ENTIRE ACA would need to be repealed, and then this would have to be addressed during the clean-up phase. Even the GOP is saying they're only interested in repealing portions of ACA, and they're dragging their feet on it as we speak.

2) I don't know of any MT who lost a job to an H-1B1 visa worker, which is what this addresses.

This will definitely have an impact on Silicon Valley -- Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc. who hire foreigners to do programming, etc.

From the linked article:

"Days after several technology leaders slammed President Trump’s ban on immigration of refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, a report surfaced Monday suggesting the tech industry might be targeted in Trump’s next executive order.
Related: Internal memo: Expedia’s CEO, a former Iranian refugee, slams Trump’s ‘reactionary’ visa crackdown

Bloomberg News reportedly obtained a draft of the order, which looks to overhaul the current work-visa program, which tech companies rely on to hire employees. Under the order, companies would have to attempt to hire American workers first, before recruiting abroad. If they did recruit foreign workers, priority would be given to the highest paid, in an effort to open entry-level positions to Americans. The order would force major companies, such as Amazon, Apple, and Google to change their recruiting practices."

Does this include the foreign workers - Trump hires?

With USDoL Approval, he hires - Law
[ In Reply To ..]
He hires about 60 temporary/seasonal workers through the H-2B program with USDoL approval to work at Mar-A-Lago.

Compare with millions of H-1B1 workers annually.
Hmm, wonder why it doesn't include - those workers
[ In Reply To ..]
America first should mean America first.
Differences. - Law
[ In Reply To ..]
One HUGE difference is that H-2B workers are SEASONAL. That's why "hospitality" (restaurants, hotels) and construction workers fall into this category.

H-1B1 may stay in the country up to 6 years.
The only - difference
[ In Reply To ..]
is that Trump uses the others so he won't use American workers first in that case. People that live in Florida need seasonal jobs too so why should that be any different? Kind of like he's bullying everybody to keep jobs here while he offshores. Most of the folks on the right don't seem to get that.
EOs - Law
[ In Reply To ..]
He has been in office a whopping ONE WEEK.

He doesn't have a magic wand to wave to fix everything in one fell swoop.

Some complain that he is signing too many EOs; you complain that he isn't signing enough. He addressed a HUGE chunk of the outsourcing problem today.

Of course, we all know that he could sign an EO tomorrow addressing the H-2B seasonal workers, and you and your ilk would still complain.
Except the part he is involved - with - nm

I probably - would

because it doesn't address his offshoring and business dealings with other countries. By golly, if I was bullying everybody else to bring jobs back, I'd be the first one to do it.

Where's those taxes.
I am actually a foreigner in USA - America First

My mother became a US citizen in her late 60s. She had become ill and could not drive to Pittsburgh to be sworn in so two agents from INS drove one hour to her house. She called me after they left, actually weeping with a kind of gracious joy that this country would do this for her.

I stand by America. I will become a US citizen this year. My father was an ambassador.

Your loaded question is an affront to me. TRUMP 2020!
What does this have to do with the - question I asked?
[ In Reply To ..]
It wasn't loaded at all. Congratulations on becoming a citizen this year.
Expediting process would be your best bet - if you care about immigrants
[ In Reply To ..]
It costs several hundred dollars and takes a long time.

Why not attempt to promote a better system which is faster, can vet the people and costs loss? Legal immigrants would support this.

Those young men all alone should be in their country, fighting the wars which are land/resource theft, nothing more. ISIS is a land developers dream (gas and oil fields).

"Expedite the process" - exact quote - Law
[ In Reply To ..]
Mr. Trump has stated repeatedly that he will "expedite the process" for legal immigration.

He may NOT get to it THIS WEEK, however. ;)
Congratulations! - Law

Wow, what a moving story.

Congratulations on your upcoming U.S. citizenship. We are happy to have you and proud to welcome you.

And -- yes, GO TRUMP!! :)
Wonderful and a very warm welcome! - anon

RETURNING PHONE CALLSMay 25, 2011
If you leave a message that you need someone to call you back, how much time goes by before they are just being rude for not getting back to you?  My sister-in-law screens her calls and half the time doesn't answer the phone, then doesn't call back.  After four days of waiting the last time I sent her an E-mail by way of her daughter (she doesn't have a computer) and she got a little huffy with me.  Am I being difficult?  ...

Wal-Mart Returning To Full-Time Workers-Obamacare Not Such A Job Killer After All? Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest employer, announced Monday that 35,000 part-time employees will soon be moved to full-time status, entitling them to the full healthcare benefits that were scheduled to be denied them as a result of Wal-Mart’s efforts to avoid the requirements of Obamacare. While some analysts believe that the move comes as Wal-Mart is attempting to deal with the negative view many ...
