Really, Sean Spicer?

Posted: Jan 21, 2017

We know Trump et al are at war with the media, but you can't blame them for the abysmal turnout at the coronation.

This is what he said in the press conference that took hours to get together and he answered no questions, but flounced out in a snit.

"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration PERIOD," Trump spokesman Sean Spicer.

Oh my goodness. While those plastic things on the ground or whatever they were might have obscured some people, we all know that was simply NOT the largest audience to witness an inauguration. It looked to most of us like the smallest audience in recent decades anyway.

But who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?

A little bit scary to think that he was almost threatening the press not to tell the truth.

Hoo boy, this is going to be some roller coaster ride. Spicer's supporters seem to think he was told to do that by his boss, but he is the press secretary, surely he's not going to let the Donald tell him to say black is white all the time and if the press doesn't follow his rules they get cut?

Who's going to tell Trump he can't get away with this, or is he going to keep trying?

I hope the good media give him heck over it, this is just ridiculous.

Does anyone, even the most ardent Trump fan, actually think that statement is true? Blame the rain, blame those plastic things, but don't claim something that is demonstrably untrue. Even your followers might start seeing you for what you are, Donald. Your nose is growing and/or you have no clothes.

It's about time someone speaks the truth about the media who will say and do anything to tear this man down. They lost, quit whining and get over it. I'm going to love every minute of the next 4 years or maybe 8!!

So are you saying you do believe - that was the biggest crowd?

[ In Reply To ..]
You can support Trump until the cows come home, but if you insist that statement is true then you are supporting fake news.

The only person whining in that press conference was Sean Spicer, not anyone else. He had to know it wasn't true either.

He even told everyone to look at the pics in - the NY Times

which clearly show the crowd much bigger in 2009. Of course the right will believe what they are told by Trump and his clan instead of their own eyes. Communism here we come!!!

He said at the Capitol AND around the world..... - Melania

Hard to get an exact count, but also hard to say definitively that crowds were less overall. The point is, the press leans very far left and doesn't always tell the truth. Remember the so called "polls" that had Hillary ahead by 10 points right before the election? They were so far in the tank for her, it's not even funny. Unless we want to see unrest for the next 4 years, we need to get behind our new president. I did 8 years ago....now it's your turn.
I think the crowds around the world today - pretty much let us know what they think of Trump

That's not at all what he said. He said the crowds were larger for Trump

counts for anything. A hypocritical pig and certifiably mentally ill woman are neither role models or revolutionary leaders.

The organizer of the march is a Muslim, a woman who is part of a religion that abuses and suppresses women. What I saw were women who are seriously misguided, who want to have the freedom to objectify themselves while vilifying men. The march, in the grand scheme of things, was nothing. President Trump has begun his leadership and will continue to do so.

My bet is the left will soon find something else to cry about and be offended by because, after all, they aren't truly wanting change, just follow whatever the cause of the day happens to be.

So, no, sorry, those who marched accomplished nothing except to show some true colors on the part of the left. They certainly did not change my mind and President Trump is still in office.
Why is it - jmt

that when people who don't agree with Trump supporters, they're degraded for standing up for what they believe in? This is Donald Trump behavior and that's just sad. Name calling, "hypocritical pig" and "mentally ill" fall right into the kind who support him. I would love to see how all his supporters would act if someone else got in office, not even necessarily Hillary, anyone else. They would be degraded, bullied and the temper tantrums, like our "leader's" would be merciless. If I could have marched today I would have. They weren't in little amounts, there was at least a million here in the US alone and that doesn't include across the world. They're allowed to voice their disgust and it's justified. You have your opinions just like everyone has theirs. No one is changing anyone's minds, no one is trying to do that and it will continue to be a nation divided. I will never stand behind him and that's my right, their right and anyone's right.

the namecalling and insults are coming from the left, including two libs who have equated Barron Trump with a school shooter. I mean, if you don't find that disgusting I suppose that's in keeping with the liberal mindset.

As far as rights, you bet we all have the right to our opinions. My opinion is the march did nothing to change reality. As much as you have the right to your opinion, I have the right to mine. The difference is, I deal with reality, make the best of a situation and move forward. What I don't do is waste my time on meaningless marches that, again, will accomplish nothing.

As far as the hypocritical pig comment, that' s the truth. Madonna made a career of objectifying herself, you know, what she's supposedly standing against? To me, that's hypocritical. She made her money on precisely what these feminists say is wrong in the world.

Ashley Judd has been diagnosed as mentally ill and the crap she spewed is beyond disgusting yet feminists think it empowers them? Yes, that is their right to believe so. It is my right to view them with contempt and pity.

you at least took the time to answer back with your explanation. That's not the norm. I appreciate that and I respect your views and opinions. I'm not left, I'm not right, I will vote for whomever I feel is the "best" candidate at the given time. Granted we weren't given the cream of the crop this election, but I wouldn't have felt right voting for someone I can't support. I've heard way too much from him and yet not enough. I couldn't in my own good conscience vote for someone I genuinely find repulsive and unfit to run a country. However, I am now forced to live out my worst nightmare for the next 4 years and hope and pray for the best, but I don't have a lot of faith in that happening.

Everything you've posted is mature and reasonable. We may not agree on whom we do/do not support, however, your points are more than valid and, again, more than reasonable. I, too, am hoping for the best and although I support Trump, he's far from perfect. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and hoping he doesn't disappoint. All the best to you. We truly are all in this together.
I have no clue - what you're talking

about with the reference to Barron, I guess I missed that. I saw a discussion where it came up that people feel he might be autistic. I'm not a doctor but have seen signs of that in him, but so what. I have a son who is on the spectrum and so am I. If anything, I felt sorry for him with all the hoopla going on because I now how overwhelming it probably was for him.

I remember the right condemning the left for mentioning that and I don't remember anybody criticizing him or calling him names.

You just said Ashley Judd has been diagnosed as mentally ill and again so what. But it's okay to criticize her apparently.

These posts that have nothing to do with the OP about Spicer are deflections because some on the right have no responses to answer why it was okay to spew lies like Spicer did.

How about an answer to the question of why fake news is okay for the right without criticizing people who don't agree with fake news being okay for the right.
At least two liberals have made appalling comments regarding Barron - anon

Katie Rich SNL writer and Julie Bowen. There was a third that I will have to find again. These posts are all over and easy to find.

I am thoroughly disgusted that such comments have likened Barron to a school shooter and I believe these references are due to the possibility he is autistic because, you know, Adam Lanza. As I also have a son on the spectrum, I cannot fathom how an adult can make such a comment about a 10-year-old child. In case you missed my point - wondering if Barron is autistic is not offensive - comparing him to a school shooter, is.

In answer to your question, fake news isn't OK whether it benefits the left OR the right. Yes I support Trump, but even I can admit Spicer is blowing smoke.

apologies to you all. I was one of the antagonists above and I'm not proud of my behavior. I, personally, need to check myself and spend more time building people up instead of tearing them down. It serves no purpose and only makes me feel ugly inside. To those I have upset, I am truly sorry. Time to spread love....

feel they need to degrade everybody that doesn't feel the same way they do. Some on this board get downright nasty if people disagree. They try to say that Trump wants to give America back to the people, yet they resort to name calling every time. The protesters are scared of what it will be like under Trump's time in office and it is totally understandable, especially when listening to people who support him.

Madonna, Ashley Judd and every one of those protesters has the right to freedom of speech, just as I do and the whole rest of the country.

The OP was about Spicer drumming up fake news yet the supporters on this board believe this garbage, and it is your right, but those who support fake news should not condemn people who understand real news.

All those protesters, Madonna, Ashley Judd and many of us have seen the viciousness of Trump and his supporters. I watched his speech where he totally insulted everybody except his supporters, I watched Spicer after an hour and a half delay come out, spew lies and leave. What a coward.

The right should never criticize President Obama for dividing the country. This country is so divided now and the world is watching. Most of the world is frightened by what is taking place here except the Russians who are celebrating. The right needs to wake up.
So, you're okay with threats to blow up the White House? - anon

Are you also OK with Judd vilifying good, decent men? Oh, and are you OK with every vile name that has been flung at us Trump supporters? Then, there's the comments about Barron Trump becoming the next school shooter. You see, the left has accused Trump supporters of being racist, blah, blah, blah. I guess you forgot that? I've never uttered a racist word in my life yet I'm suddenly a racist because I support Trump. See how that works? The left has done nothing but name call, accuse, bully, but it's the right who are evil? Your choice to believe as you do, however, a good dose of reality just might help.

You can get mad about the fact that perhaps the press shouldn't have highlighted the low attendance, but to insist you had the biggest crowd ever when it's obviously untrue?

President Obama NEVER would have held a press conference for the express purpose of whipping the media and he would NEVER have insisted his press secretary tell an easily demonstrable lie.

Again, if Trump is your man, fine, but why is it immediately apparent that in order to be considered "getting behind our new president" we have to believe a lie?

I'm fine with unrest and if anyone deserves it it's Trump. He does NOT have a mandate in any way, shape, or form, as witnessed by the REALLY huge numbers that came out today pretty much against him - far more than for his inauguration.

Unrest is better than propaganda anyday.

I hope the press doesn't fold and go along with the lies, no matter what they are threatened.
