Taking a long road trip to look for Trump's America.

Posted: Jan 8, 2017

Allegheny River, talking to Hromadik and others like him. I have cowered under the covers long enough. Denial does no one any good. Donald Trump is going to put his left hand on the Bible in a couple weeks and repeat the oath of office administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. I do not live in Donald Trump’s America, but I aim to learn from those who do. I’ve rented a sturdy car. I’ve enlisted a wingman with serious driving chops. And I’ve pointed myself west to the land Trump found so fertile and tilled with such skill and in a rough-shod style all his own....;

Clueless in Liberal Land. Good Lord, you'd think he was going on - a safari. In this guy's smug world view,

the world outside his progressive cocoon may as well be Mozambique.

We had taken several long road trips for hubbies work from mid-August to early October, covering a total of 20 U.S. states from the Rocky Mountains to the Northeast. If I told you that the Trump/Pence signs I saw in my travels outnumbered the Clinton/Kaine signs by a 200-to-1 ratio, I'm probably underestimating the Trump/Pence figure.

A lot of people - old and burned out

believed the snake oil salesman because they wanted to. I don't blame them but the sad fact is that many, many of their jobs have been lost to automation not just foreign workers. If a high tech plant returned to some of these communities would the residents have the skills to be employed in them? One of the saddest things is that bringing jobs back to America, if he can do it, is just a small part of the job of being president and in the job of national security and foreign policy in which Trump has no experience, admits he does not read and has chosen some questionable advisors, he scares the living daylights out of us non-Trump believers.

Clueless is right. Maybe he should get points for venturing outside - of his comfort zone. These people

are completely out of touch with the rest of America, so insular is the little bubble they live in. They look at regular Americans the way Jane Goodall looks at gorillas.

It is possible to live your entire life without ever encountering a conservative thought or idea, in places like New York or Santa Monica. They live, work with, watch, listen to, only people they agree with, and they think that what they see is America. But conservatives can’t avoid the Left. It permeates the whole culture, music, movies, TV, and education from K through graduate school. So we know them, but they don’t know us. You see it on any message board like this where liberals post THEIR interpretation of conservative views, which is like a caricature through a fun house mirror.

I would estimate approximately 80% of the lawns in my region held Trump/Pence signs - anon

Of the few lawns featuring Hillary signs, at least two read, "Hillary for prison."

CIA Director Taking The Middle RoadDec 12, 2014
Seems there is some real squirming going on.  CIA director has never given a televised address. He states interrogation helped reveal "secrets," even info to get Bin Laden, but is uncertain if the EIT portion was responsible for that.  So, a veiled manner of saying interrogation is necessary, but not sure if that extreme stuff report is complaining about really revealed anything.   I hope Cheney and Rumsfeld get brought up on charges for this.  It may not be the most ...

The Start Of A Long Road - Jan 28, 2011
My marriage has been rocky for many years, ever since my husband quit work to build his own home-based business six years ago after a car accident.  I had always supported him in his wish to make his own business, it had been his dream for years (we've been married 24 years).  I even agreed to become the breadwinner while his business was getting off the ground, which was possible because I think I have the last well paying MT job in the country.  Anyway, sharing an office fo ...

Trump And The American Divide. This Is A Long ButJan 16, 2017
and this is just an excerpt... Barack Obama’s two electoral victories deluded the Democrats into thinking that it was politically wise to jettison their old blue-collar appeal to the working classes, mostly living outside the cities these days, in favor of an identity politics of a new multicultural, urban America. Yet Trump’s success represented more than simply a triumph of rural whites over multiracial urbanites. More ominously for liberals, it also suggested that a growing minority o ...

Well, This Morning I Heard Donald Trump Say That I Was Not Born In AmericaApr 10, 2011
I learned a lot more about myself and my status. It's not good. I don't think I exist. He said that a Certificate of Live Birth is worthless. It isn't a birth certificate at all! He said that in many states you can't use it to get a driver's license or even to get married. I couldn't remember exactly what I had, so I dug out all of the family birth certificates, uh, I mean, things they gave us when we were born. My husband's says, "Standard Certificate of Bir ...

Obama Spying Scandal Started Long Before Trump. Apr 11, 2017
security advisor Susan Rice admitted that she used the intelligence community to spy on members of the Trump team, but this type of behavior isn’t anything new. In fact, it appears the Obama White House had been spying on its political opponents and leaking classified information about them long before Donald Trump won the presidential election last November, Lee Smith of Tablet Magazine writes. Remember the Iran Deal negotiations? In December 2015, The Wall Street Journal revealed tha ...

Nyc TripSep 11, 2011
I am planning a day trip to NYC on Saturday, Nov 5th.  I have been to NYC many times, mainly with my girlfriends to shop and eat.  This year, I would like to take my family, which includes my husband and 3 sons - ages 9 through 14.  I'm looking for suggestions as to what to do and see, as I know they would not enjoy shopping the entire day.  I had hoped to see the Rockettes, but their show doesn't start until the following Saturday and there's no way to resche ...

Does Anyone Want A Long (and I Mean Long!) History Lesson On Gridlock?Sep 12, 2012
I had seen an old newspaper article called "Gridlock shows signs of thawing" by Robert Novak back in 2011 so I've been mainly focusing on finding info on gridlock and the effects on lawmaking, Congress and the Presidents in the past few days.  I did compress the various articles I found, trying not to be partial to one side or the other. If you want to read it, I can post it tomorrow.   ...

My Kids Just Left For A TripAug 01, 2014
Mind you, they are 22 and 25.  They are driving from upstate NY to Long Island to stay with friends and see a concert.  Now, each of them has been gone on their own, my son's been to the other end of the country on both a plane and train.  I think my problem with this trip is that they're together in his car.  I have these visions of a crash and losing both of them at the same time.   I know - silly, right?  Yes, I know it.  But a mom worries.   ...

Changing Clothes In School For A Trip May 25, 2010
Does this seem a little off to you?  On Monday the class made tye-dye shirts, which are supposed to be worn on Friday for a field trip.  Okay.  Fine.  Now we, the parents, are being told that the shirts will not be sent home prior to the trip and the children will be required to change shirts in school prior to leaving for the trip.  Why?  Why on earth won't they send the shirts home Thursday?  I have a little girl and I am very uncomfortable with the fact ...

I Noticed No One Saying Anything About Beyonce And Jay-Z's Trip To CubaApr 09, 2013
It was their 5th wedding anniversary and they went to Cuba, which is against the law; but, of course, they got away with breaking the law. According to the Treasury Dept. spokesperson, they were on a "cultural exchange." Getting away with breaking the law by friends or family of our esteemed President again and again seems to be a habit. How much more is this administration going to thumb their noses at, and/or break the laws of, our country?    ...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20021841-503544.html   Earlier this week, the Press Trust of India reported that the United States will "be spending a whopping $200 million per day on President Barack Obama's visit" to Mumbai. The story lacked a named source, and the $200 million claim was credited to "a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit." The claim quickly gained traction on the right, thanks in part to a lin ...

Sarah Palin's Hunting Trip To Feed Her Family Cost $42,400 Or $141.33 Per Lb. Of CaribouDec 07, 2010
When Sarah Palin took us on a hunting/camping trip with her dad Chuck Heath on the latest episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, she said hunting was necessary to "fill her freezer!"  Hunting for caribou means “food on the table and in the freezer for a lot of Alaskans,” the former Govenor extolled. She opened her freezer to let us see how the Palin meat pantry was getting bare. “For many people in remote areas of Alaska, there’s no grocery store nearby, we just g ...
