IC MTs and Obamacare

Posted: Jan 6, 2017

For those MTs on here cheering the repeal of Obamacare keep in mind that many of your fellow IC MTs are on Obamacare currently and with health issues.  They were unable to secure insurance prior to the ACA and today are covered for their health issues at an affordable rate.

You write of soaring premiums under Obamacare but fail to take into consideration the cost of individual health insurance rates in your "free market."  Those rates for me were over $1,200 per month for 1 individual.  Under Obamacare policies I was able to secure health insurance for far, far less, and in spite of your claims of soaring rates, etc., today I am still able to secure insurance under the ACA for far, far less than $1,200 per month.

There are MTs on here that have been able to have their cancers treated, their diabetes treated, theire heart diseases treated, etc. due to the fact that Obamacare came into existance.

This cheering on of the abolishment of Obamacare is tanamount to cheering on the health demise of your fellow IC MTs, many who secure affordable coverage through the ACA (Obamacare.)

ACA - MT

I hope it is changed pronto. We have health issues in our home also. We owe more to the hospitals now then ever in our lives. My husband is 63 and we will be paying these 1000s of dollars off for years due to wonderful ACA. Not to mention the 800 dollars a month to have the crap insurance. Glad we finally escaped that nightmare except for the lingering medical bills. One shoe does not fill all.

Meanwhile many of those who had insurance - through their employer

[ In Reply To ..]
had such astronomical premium increases they are unable to afford it. The few who can afford it have deductibles so high they will likely never reach them. If an employer offers health insurance, you don't qualify for any subsidy through ACA so pay the full rate.

ACA only moved the burden from one group of people to another while insurance companies still reap the benefits. A better plan would be to focus on affordable premiums for EVERYONE, not one group or the other.

Awe... boo hoo - Mine skyrocketed!

[ In Reply To ..]
Do I feel badly for you? Not when my premium is now $640 a month with a $12,000 deductibe! Do you care that I now can't afford health insurance?

GO TRUMP! I am so grateful Obamacare will be gone!

Did I miss something somewhere? Has Trump promised to replace Obamacare with low cost low deductible insurance??? Cause if you believe that's going to happen you also must believe Mexico is going to pay for the wall....

Republicans still have no plan - OABO

to replace the ACA. They will no doubt repeal it but replacing it will be much more difficult. Since they have been trying to repeal it for 8 years why haven't they come up with a plan yet?
Sure they do. - Didn't you get the memo?

There is a plan. A darn good one at that.
...and is is a great plan too, a great, great plan that will cause millions - to lose their health insurance. nm

They have talked about it a lot but there is no plan.
If people would read other things than only leftist propaganda - they might find out the truth

The truth is out there. Just not in the leftist Hanoi Hilton propaganda.

There is a plan.

The real legacy of Obamacare is waste, fraud, abuse, - entitlement, vote buying through

Latest Kaiser poll - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
shows that only 1 in 5 Americans wants the ACA repealed. What everyone wants is affordable health care with low premiums, low deductibles and choices. Trump promised it but he won't be able to deliver because with our system of for profit hospitals, for profit insurance companies and for profit drug companies (obscene profits) it is just not possible. All government programs are subject to waste, fraud and abuse; monitoring those is another problem entirely.
This is based on Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Rasmussen - and others have different results.
[ In Reply To ..]
Right now the government (taxpayers) pays directly for over $1 trillion in health care services.

How many of those polled are on the receiving end of that $1 trillion?
Re: Kaiser poll - Who's kidding who
[ In Reply To ..]
That poll would be largely correct. Anyone who has any form of health insurance today (employer based insurance, individual insurance, catastrophic insurance)has some nice benefits in their policies thanks to the ACA.

The ACA (Obamacare) gets repealed the benefits for all go poof, and frankly no one likes to lose valuable benefits. This equates to a whole lot of very upset and angry voters.

If this whole repeal thing is not handled properly you will find a Democratic house and likely Senate in 2 years and that's the end of the Republican ball game.

What you are failing to acknowledge, though, is that someone else is paying for it. It may be affordable for you but what is your subsidy and who is paying it? I, too, have coverage through the ACA. And my rate for this year more than doubled. It is no less expensive than when I purchased my own insurance in the free market, but back then nobody else had to pay for it but me. And I was okay with that. I don't see why the taxpayer should have to continue to shoulder the burden for everyone else. We are marching onward to socialism here, and people are too naïve or too uninformed or just too plan selfish to realize what that really means and what is destroys in a society.

Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Then last week BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee announced it would leave three of the state’s largest exchange markets—Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville. “We have experienced losses approaching $500 million over the course of ...

Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

This Is My Take On Obamacare For Oct 03, 2013
So this is what I have learned.   After listening about the new health insurance, this is what I know. There are 3 levels of care/cost. When discussing the ACA or Obamacare, whichever you call it, remember that it is literally like comparing apples and oranges (and grapes, pineapple and maybe even potatoes).  Each state has different prices and different plans from the federal plan.  Some states now have only one company offering a plan through their state exchange.  Each plan has a different monthly cost, a different deductable and it goes on and on and on.  The requirements are different from state to state ...
