Trump pays rather than going to trial

Posted: Nov 18, 2016

Trump pays 25 million in settlement for Trump University fraud. I guess that's better than being a president on trial for fraud eh?;

He admitted no wrongdoing. Good. Now he can get on with - fixing Obama's messes

And seem to forget another settlement by the man who would have been - "First Gentleman" (gag).

A liberal is someone who steps outside into a monsoon of truth and somehow manages to remain completely dry.

Smart move. That judge should have recused himself - because of external interests.

$10,000,000 for the lawyers..$1850 each for the plaintiffs.

If Trump University can held accountable for failing to properly educate its students for the real world, why not the state colleges and universities? Maybe we should sue them! They are full of cash. Look at Harvard and Yale endowments. Billions.

Shhh. Don't tell the lawyers.

Glad this is one issue that is gone. Now on to dealing with the Brave New World.

We need to guard against prejudicial thinking here. - Right?

(As an aside, I notice that the NYT, which had supposedly rededicated itself to "objectivity", provided no quotes from any of the thousands of satisfied TU students in it's piece about the settlement. The resolution, like most of our own New Year's resolutions, lasted about as long as a snowflake on a hot stove.)

Back to my point. There are a couple of very different slants that can be placed on the decision to settle this lawsuit. Both are equally persuasive, but neither is capable of proof.

In such a case, sheer rationality (I won't give in to fantasy and expect "fair-mindedness") demands that we not choose one over the other.

The fact is that Trump might have settled the case because he thought he would lose and in order to escape the embarrassment. Or, he might have settled the case because he felt that doing so was in the best interest of the country, DESPITE believing that he would have prevailed.

You don't know which, and neither do I, so let's move on - especially since there are a couple of other very famous settlements that you seem to be ignoring.

Got history?

Perfectly legal - Nm

Okay, he had no right that I know of to shoot this man, but I'm so sick of them trying to make Trayvon out to be a good kid when he was in a gang, sold drugs, fighting was his favorite pasttime and he had been expelled from school many times.  Why are they not allowing his past into court? ...

Casey Anthony TrialMay 30, 2011
They did a whole day of going over the trial and testimony on HLN today.  Just wondered if anyone here buys the defense story that the child drowned in the pool but because Casey was sexually abused by her father she showed no emotion and did not report it. Watching her string of lies, theft and partying, I can't imagine how she is going to get out of this even if a member of the jury believes her behavior was because of sexual molestation by her father.  Wha ...

Navy Seals Being Put On Trial?Nov 25, 2009
Just caught a bit of this story. They arrested a terrorist and he's claiming they punched him? Now they are on trial????? Where's the justice??? This is the type of lop-sided politics that is killing our country. As for the Gitmo trials, they don't belong in NY. They weren't arrested in NY. They were arrested in another country by the military. U.S. Law does not cover this. Military law does. They are being held in a military prison  Read up on it. They should go to tri ...

arlier today, Jared Loughner, a troubled young man who is accused of shooting 20 innocent people, including my colleague, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was found unfit to stand trial for his actions. Yet, despite the belief that Mr. Loughner could be a danger to himself and others, our fe ...

Casey Anthony TrialJul 04, 2011
This trial has just been going on too long.  As with so many sensationalized things these days (too much in my opinion) it is just going on and on and on too long, with the hopes that a reasonable doubt is created on the part of the defense.  I  have tried to catch a bit of testimony on a daily basis, though I have not allowed my life to revolve around this case.  I have just wanted to see what evidence each side had and how it was presented and form in my own mind whether or ...

Casey Anthony Trial SurveyJun 06, 2011
Following this trial and listening to commentary there is very little doubt it seems that Casey Anthony murdered her child and disposed of the body. I think a lot of the bias is because she is a pathologic liar.  Aside from the lying can anyone take a leap and think she may not be guilty of murder or that the state is not proving it beyond a reasonable doubt? Does anyone believe she was molested by her father/brother which caused her psychopathic lying? I heard Geraldo Rivera comment ...

How The ACA Pays For SubsidiesNov 07, 2013
Short, but good article on NRP.   The new health care law will provide around $1 trillion in subsidies to low- and middle-income Americans over the next decade to help them pay for health insurance. Johanna Humbert of Galien, Mich., was pleasantly surprised to discover that she qualifies for an insurance subsidy, since her current plan is being canceled. Humbert makes about $30,000 a year, so she'll get a subsidy of about $300 a month. The new plan is similar to her current one, but ...

Who Pays For The Wall? I Don't Give A Rip. It Will Be Jan 27, 2017
Almost any scheme that would impose a cost on Mexico for the wall is likely to have some cost to the American citizen as well.  If you impose a 20% tax on imports, Mexican goods (e.g. produce) would us cost more for sure, although not 20% more because Mexicans would be pricing themselves out of the market, so they'll adjust their prices to some extent downward. The fact is, though, that the cost of drugs, human trafficking and the illegal population in the US is approximately 5 times ...
