Fertility issues

Posted: Oct 14, 2016

My daughter has been unble to get pregnant since she had a miscarriage 8 years ago.  She found out her right tube is completely blocked.  She wants a baby so much, and she would make a wonderful mother.  All of her friends are working on their 3rd or 4th ones now, and she cannot bring herself to go to baby showers anymore.  I encouraged her to look at foster care, since adopting a baby is expensive and takes forever.  I am reaching out to my peeps on this board to see if there is any one out there who has experience in this and or words of wisdom?  THANKS in advance.

Foster care in lieu of adoption will just break her heart more. - sm

Foster kids can and are constantly removed to another home for the most arbitrary of reasons.

I have an aunt who took in impossible-to-place foster kids for a while and literally worked miracles with some of them. And as soon as she did, they were no longer "unplaceable," so away they went to a more "appropriate" foster home or up for adoption. (Most of the children did not match her ethnicity or religion, plus she was single.)

She actually tried to adopt several of them and was turned down flat. Apparently, she was good enough to deal with them when everyone else refused to even try, but not good enough to become their mother after she turned them back into decent, happy human beings. The last time tore her and the kid both up so much that she had to just stop fostering any more.

Is she brave and willing to jump right in to parenthood? - sm

Have her look into adoption from her state's foster care program. If she is wiling to take a sibling "group," she would be near the top of the list. A group is considered 2 or more, so tell her not to freak out. Groups are harder to place so they need a parent or parents quick. Sometimes there is a baby within the group, but there usually will be at least one older child (between 5 and 10 years of age). SIngle parents are more than welcome, too, as these kids really need a home NOW.

The training my husband and I received before we adopted our children was fantastic. We went through the same training that foster parents do but were not interested in fostering at all. We sort of picked our kids off the state web site, met them in person, and 8 days later brought them home permanently (although I'm sure it wasn't supposed to move that quick, lol).

Did they have problems and issues? Sure did. But you have every resource of the state behind you including medical, dental, and every therapy known to man, all paid for. In fact, the state paid us $400 a month for each child until they turned 21. We really didn't want to take the state's money but were advised to do so in case the kids needed more help later on (really a paperwork issue).

Today our children are all grown up, totally on their own. They are all productive, loving, wonderful members of society. They all want to take care of us as we approach our senior years the way we took care of them when they needed a family.

Please tell your daughter to look into programs in her state. There is absolutely no cost or fees, and she can discontinue her participation anytime, at any level of the process.

Thanks to all - sm

Thanks for all the good advice. We have talked about foster care a few times, but she is unsure of how it would be if she became attached, and then for whatever reason the child was put back into the custody of its parents. I like the idea of a group of children, I think that would be more challenging, but way more rewarding in the long run. Thanks to all the advice. Prayers for her as she continues to contemplate her next steps. Either way, I cannot wait to spoil some young un's again.

I'd be curious to know if she had multiple - vaccinations when in

childhood. Your daughter's case is not unusual as there seems to be a link between mega childhood vaccinations and infertility. You could try going to a fertility specialist although some insurances do not pay for it anymore (very $$$). I know this is no consolation for you but it is a growing issue in this country.

She had all the usual vaccinations, which were mandatory to enter school. Her right tube is completely blocked and so she only has the chance every other month to conceive. her insurance does not pay for fertility. But thanks for the things to think about. :)

Bladder IssuesMar 06, 2011
I had a hysterectomy about eleven years ago.  Since that time, I have had a lot of UTI\\\\\\\'s.  I would assume it is because I have a prolapsed bladder or cystocele.  I am seeing a Urologist on Thursday and I was wondering if he was going to recommend a sling procedure.  Has anyone had this done, and are you happy with it?  ...

Skin IssuesFeb 23, 2011
Well, we're all pretty much feeling the economic squeeze and I'very decided I need to find a more economical line of skin care products (I have sensitive skin and have been using Cetaphil cleanser with creme de la mer toner and the creme de la mer moisturizing cream for ages).  I don't know if its because my skin is just supersensitive or so used to these high-end toners and moisturizers that they just go haywire when I try something new and more economic.  I'd bee ...

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

Not My Kid, But Got Teenage IssuesAug 24, 2010
A very dear friend of my husband and I has gone off the deep end over the past year or more.  He is a full-blown cocaine/crack addict and his family has all but disowned him.  He pretty much does what he wants and is not anywhere near the point where he feels like he needs help. He has kicked his wife and her 15 year old daughter out of the house several times during his path of self destruction.  Most recent was this past weekend AFTER he took almost everything in their ...

Let's Talk Issues....smAug 01, 2012
Since it has been brought up that libs supposedly don't want to talk issues, let's do just that... Issue 1: Foreign policy: What exactly is it that Romney would do different from Obama in the middle east? Issue 2: Besides trying to kill Obamacare and therefore healthcare for tons of people, as well as lowering taxes for the rich, what is it exactly that Romney would do to improve the economy? I'm assuming pubs have the answers to these questions as they are so sure that Romn ...

Outside Cat, Trying To Solve Eye Issues AndOct 27, 2014
I wrote down below about outside cat that has eye issues. Some told me about L-Lysine, got that and started 1000 mg a day or so ago. What I would like to know, have some Vitamin C that I was giving him and he seemed to have brighter eyes. This morning his eyes again (after not giving him the Vitamin C, switching out for L-Lysine) were looking a little worse. Would it be any problem to give him both the Lysine and the Vitamin C? Thanks my fellow catfolks! ...

NEIGHBOR ISSUESAug 22, 2015
There are 3 families with young children who live next to me.  My children are grown and gone.  All of the children like to come to my house, probably because I don't have to discipline them, I'm like a grandmother. Anyway, I will label them family A, B and C.  Family A is no longer allowed to play with family B or C - long story. I enjoy having all of the children at my house - I miss having children around.  I have never had this problem before and I'm not ...

Hypothyroidism And Skin IssuesApr 09, 2011
I have hypothyroidism, but not taking any medications.  Part of my problem is my face and skin.  Under my eyes is always flaky (like psoriasis) and I've got pimples that are breaking out all over my face, but they are not like the pimples of my youth (without getting gross about how I used to get rid of them), now when I try to pop them nothing happens and they get bigger and redder and they hurt.  The skin on my face is normal but my forehead is normal to oily and the areas ...

Need To Talk About Mental IssuesApr 27, 2011
I don't even know where to begin.  Right now, I am in such pain and emotional turmoil, but I know it is many times worse for my son.  He has been diagnosed with autism (educational diagnosis) later changed to Asperger's, and the initial medical diagnosis was PDD-NOS with ADHD (at age 3).  He is now in 9th grade and life is miserable for our whole family.  I am coming to believe that he may actually have (either with the above or any combination of thi ...

Feet Issues- For YearsAug 22, 2013
I have no idea where to go to get some help for myself. I have tried every single speciality that I thought perhaps could help but this has been going on for over 10 years now and no help. Tried ortho, podiatry, neurologist, nerve conduction studies, x-rays, MRIs, nothing found and no treatment and still going on. If not for Birkie's, have no clue what I would do but still feet aching. My left foot used to have electrical current that would hit, only when walking, never at night. That elect ...

Sinus/Allergy IssuesApr 27, 2014
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?  I have never, ever had any type of issues with sinus problems or allergy problems.  Back in October, I got sick and was living in a house with probably some mold and other allergens.  I got extremely sick and stayed that way for a couple of months.  Since then I have had a stuffy nose, unable to smell, limited taste and a stopped up ear, so that has been SEVEN months now!  I don't have insurance, so the only doctor I can aff ...

Two Issues (one Non MT) And A Question, So Will Post Here. Jun 08, 2016

I received two invitations today to schedule interviews for FT positions. Now I need to know how to politely decline these so I'm not burning any bridges in case I end up needing them again. Now the reason I need to decline and my question. Last night I found out that I will be moving my grandmother into my home to take ca ...

Husband Issues-Part 2Nov 05, 2014
I posted a short while back and got some great input and was asking for a bit more.  Short recap: I'm the one that the hubby has a lady at work who has a crush on him, made it known to a friend of mine, I confronted lady and hubby stopped talking to her, but didn't really have a confrontation with her.  I was upset at hubby, because I felt he should have confronted her, not just me.  Anyway, I decided to take the high road and just leave it alone and stop bothering hubby ...

Have A Question About End Of Life IssuesFeb 06, 2015
I know it makes no difference what a person wants in their directives, the family can and does sometimes want something else but I want to talk about vent care, life support. Okay, so if a person is at end of life and has no directives, the doctor says to the next of kin you have to make a decision, this person is gone. I know you cannot live like forever on life support, not like you are living but remain on life support is what I mean. What if the family says no, absolutely not and refuses to ...

Something To Beware Of/privacy IssuesJan 03, 2016
I have been spending the day studying. The issues of privacy and what lawyers call a "reasonable expectation of privacy" came up. A girlfriend of mine recently (just on a whim) did that thing where you can have your DNA tested by that organization called Ancestry--the purpose was to determine her ethnicity. (Her parents were both Italian immigrants and she herself was born in NYC.) Anyway, she paid about $100 and the test told her she was 70% Italian, 20% German, and 10% West Indian. The We ...

Need To Tell My Grown Children About Medical IssuesOct 29, 2009
I have always considered myself in excellent health especially with all the health issues I type on each and every day with people younger or near my age. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in the late 80s and the doctor asked me about anyone in my family who had it, usually he said runs in the females and told me to let any daughters I might have the information. I went back to an older aunt and she could think of no one in the family with this. I since have been diagnosed with a kidney diseas ...

Female Felines With Anal Issues?Oct 21, 2012
I have had my male cat's anal gland expressed before but this morning noticed a very obnoxious odor from the female, very similar and thinking it is the same as the male. Has anyone else had female who had a similar problem? I am taking her plus the other 2 males in the home tomorrow to have all done, if that is the issue. I am feeling perhaps late in having this done and feeling bad that perhaps I missed but then again did not consider perhaps it happening to the female population. Has any ...

Neck And Cervical Strain IssuesMar 08, 2013
Would love any suggestions of how many of you have this problem.  I have tried neck exercises, shots and heating pad and ice to my right shoulder, try to watch my posture too.  My daughter also has this, but she does not sit at the computer like I do.  This is annoying and cannot get relief until I go to bed at night and it eases it somewhat, but then when working again I am plagued with it again.   I fear it is coming from a pinched nerve in my cervical neck but have no insu ...

Independent Contractor/health IssuesMay 01, 2016
I've been an IC for a few years for one company.  I have several health issues, which they were aware of when they took me on.  It seems like the last 6 months or so, I'm getting threatened with termination.  Due to health conditions, I am UNABLE to make production requirements.  I am also UNABLE to work 40 hours a week.     I'm not sure what to do.  My doctor only lists me as PARTIALLY disabled.     Really stuck between a rock and ...
