Cellulitis

Posted: Sep 2, 2016

Has anybody on here ever had cellulitis? I went to the ER about two weeks ago for mine. It was draining and they put me on IV cefalexin and discharged me with a prescription for Keflex 500 mg, take 4 a day for 10 days.  (They offered me admission but I turned it down.)  Anyway it's pretty well healed up now but the itching is driving me nuts.  Has anybody else had cellulitis with itching?  If so, how did you deal with it?  I've been taking Benadryl and applying moisturizing lotion to the affected areas.

I had it in a tetanus injection site. Mild itching, warmth, redness, swelling and fever. Got a shot in my hip and then 10 days of antibiotics. Not much itching though.

When hubby had shingles the itching aftermath was the worst. He had it on his back and an Ace bandage wrap with slight compression helped a lot with the itching. Maybe try some compression? Can you use a cortisone-type cream for itching?

I had intense itching from shingles. - sm

I was going nuts. No OTC pill, cream or ointment worked. Nothing!! I called my doctor. She knew I had the shingles and called in a prescription for hydroxyxine. It knocked me on my fanny, but got rid of the itching in a few days. Good luck.

I fell down all 4 steps and since Friday have had bad swelling of the foot and ankle. There is also an abrasion on the top of my foot where the cement steps tore away skin. Sunday my friend talked me into going for x-rays. There is no break, but the doctor diagnosed cellulitis. Since Sunday evening I have been on Keflex 500 mg 3 times a day for 1 ...
