Server versus account - why do so many intelligent people not understand

Posted: Aug 22, 2016

between a private e-mail account (protected against hacking) and a private email SERVER which had absolutely no protection from hacking.  I can't believe these are reports for CNN and other top news sources that keep saying that Colin Powell had a personal e-mail account while he was Secretary of State.. yes he did - but he didn't keep his own server in the basement of his house to use for ALL his e-mail.......theres a difference

;

There is a difference, but it isn't necessarily in hacking protection. - sm

That depends on the server administrator. Given a decent administrator, a private server would actually be safer for 3 reasons. First, most expert hackers expend their energies on servers belonging to big companies, governments, etc. (US government servers get hacked quite regularly.) Second, all the admins/managers/tech people at a big company like AOL, Google, etc. have access to the servers and usually all content on them. That's because, third, virtually none of the email account providers encrypt data stored on their servers and have no access to the encryption key belonging to each user. (Our government is working overtime these days to shut down any that do securely encrypt. Unfortunately, Mr. Snowden shared my high opinion of the security of my immediately previous email provider, and that email service is gone now. To my knowledge, there is only one really securely encrypted email service still operating servers within the US borders, and it stays prepared to move all operations entirely offshore at the drop of a hat--or a subpoena.)

If you are running your own private email server, you can encrypt it, and only you, or you and one server admin you know personally, need have access to the physical server or know the encryption key.

Last, but not least, unless you and the people you correspond with apply 3rd-party encryption to your email messages to protect them in transit, anything and everything sent by email is written on a postcard. Anyone whose hands it passes through (and most emails make several server jumps) can read it if they care to.

Simple answer; because the media misinformation. What Hillary - did is illegal so they have to cover for her.

Now they're trying to pin it on Colin Powell and it might work for a while, but it looks like the libs made a mistake assuming he would just be a subservient lapdog after transitioning to the "dark side."

Our "press" if you can call it that today is nothing more - than what we used to call yellow

journalism. They don't bother researching or vetting anything, unless of course you happen to be Republican.

Just look at the Louisiana flood and the difference in it's coverage.

So Hillary is saying the black guy set me up! - Colon Powell has broken his silence

about his alleged involvement in the Hillary Clinton email scandal, saying her team is falsely trying to blame him.

“Her people have been trying to pin it on me.” When asked why Clinton’s team were attempting to blame him, he responded, “Why do you think?”

Can you imagine if this was the other way around? The media would be screaming racist.

When it comes to national security, memos are sent out to - come to so and so for a meeting,

but nothing should ever be sent out at a home email. it's appalling that someone running for President of the United States did this.

Clinton's Email Server Traced To ISP Registered To NY HomeMar 04, 2015
WASHINGTON –  The computer server that transmitted and received Hillary Clinton's emails -- on a private account she used exclusively for official business when she was secretary of state -- traced back to an Internet service registered to her family's home in Chappaqua, New York, according to Internet records reviewed by The Associated Press. The highly unusual practice of a Cabinet-level official physically running her own email would have given Clinton, the presumptive D ...

I also agree it is horrific that a 16-year-old lost his life under any circumstances.  Unfortunately, if you read the article, the incident was not iniated because of rock throwing, but rather because a truck load of narcotics was abandoned by two individuals and the individuals were running back to Mexico.&n ...
