Can't believe

Posted: Aug 19, 2016

that no one talked about the Olympics. Can't believe MTs are not interested. Anyway, just saying was really wigged out no one was interested. ;

Some of us might be more interested in finding another job - than silly games that do not benefit us. nm

I've been loving the Olympics! And I like - the Winter Olympics even more!

Wigged out? - Really?

[ In Reply To ..]
Who says that?

In any event, perhaps you could direct us to the federal or state regulation that requires everyone to be interested in the Olympics and/or to comment on the Olympics on an internet forum.

Not necessary to be so mean was there? - anonie

There is always one person who follows me to every single board to just say anything nasty in a post.

It is a shame you spend your life doing this.

I don't like the Olympics. Never did, never will. - Just sayin'

Two thumbs down.

Ummm... - You Did Not Post Anything, Either

So, you're wigged out that nobody posted anything about the Olympics. Well, guess what, neither did you. Does that mean you don't care about the Olympics. Your reasoning and logic is a little twisted.

If you wanted to talk about the Olympics, you should have opened up a discussion.

A little dysfunctional are we?

You must be sitting there hoping I would answer another nasty post - anonie

You know I just posted something I was concerned about wondering if we have lost all of our patriotism and these games only come up every four years.

Patriotism? - Really?

[ In Reply To ..]
I personally do not equate competitiveness with patriotism to one's country. sports are sports and are one of the most over-paid items in the world. too much ego involved and should not be rewarded for egotism. just like anything that involves big money, I feel they are all a racket, fixed, and designed to bilk others of their hard earned money. these "games" are filled with dishonesty, just like casinos are. It is fake. all of it. just like the "elections" and politics. The "winners" are the ones who could afford to pay off someone else with the most money. It's the way of the world in these times. There is no patriotism involved in any of it.

don't enjoy watching sports, Olympics or not. I do catch US stats on the news with the medal counts, etc., and I'm happy that the US is doing so well. I agree with the poster who said that if you had wanted to talk about the Olympics, you should have initiated a post yourself. It's as simple as that.

No - see msg

Nobody here is a mind-reader. If you would re-read your first post, you will see that nothing about patriotism was in there.

That being said, of course Americans should have pride. But I don't think winning medals has to do with pride. It has to do with being a hard-working individual, earning one's own way, and not sponging off the government. That's pride. NOW, if one is truly disabled, unable to do any kind of work at all, then of course our government should help them.

As long as I'm at it, I feel sorry for some Olympians. They are doing it to please their parents or their country, which is sad to me. Did you see that one mother of a gymnast? She was literally gyrating in her seat and saying "stick it, stick it." That's horrible. Imagine how that kid feels if/when she doesn't "stick it." Awful. That to me is child abuse---yes, most of these Olympians start as children.

And there are certain countries that REQUIRE certain of their people to "become Olympians."

Pressure much?

Olymphics - MT

I do not like them. Although I have to say this year it is interesting watching the US swim immaturity and lies. Who would of thought they would carry on like that in another country representing the US? Embarrassing for sure.

I lost interest in the summer Olympics once they allowed professional athletes to play, but do enjoy the winter ones, especially the luge

It's "would have" and not "would of" - a pet peeve of mine... had to say it - flame away ;)

Closing ceremony just ended. - I watched a lot of the Olympics.

I watched the opening ceremony and as much of the games as I possibly could. As in the past, I enjoyed every minute of it. I love sports and I loved seeing the international athletes enjoying themselves and their competitors. They all worked hard and they deserve recognition and honor.

Anonie, I'm sorry for the nasty trolls who seem to follow you around, but that is what they are, trolls. There are some cynical, unhappy people who lurk around these boards attempting to make others as miserable as they are themselves. Pay them no mind.

Aside from Lochte and his pals, I'm proud of our athletes. Maybe Lochte can get Clinton to represent him. She seems to have getting away with lying locked in.

Thanks for the good words - anonie

Thanks for your good words. I just think we need to support our athletes like we do our troops and police.

It is not hard for me to be patriotic since my father was in WWII when I was born.

I didn't watch everything, but I did skip the closing ceremonies because I couldn't get interested in it.

I have no idea what they were like after the songs at the beginning.

Closing ceremony was very colorful and lively. - SM

After the athletes came into the arena and there was the exchange of flags, Tokyo, the 2020 host city, had a remarkable video montage and then the party began in typical Rio carnival style. Lots and lots of samba dancers and musicians. It was great!

Just been too busy to post, but I LOVED them! - sm

The USA women gymnasts were phenomenal! I'm proud to say that Laurie Hernandez lives in my town, and we're having a welcome-home parade for her Saturday.

There were several highlights for me:

There was a 41-year-old female gymnast from Uzbekistan, and she was competing in her SEVENTH Olympics. How inspiring for those of us not still in the pink of our youth.

Of course, Michael Phelps continued to impress, amassing an incredible total of 28 medals, 23 of which are gold.

It was said that this year was especially remarkable because of the number of American women who competed and the number of American women who actually medaled. Many attribute some of the athletic success of the American women to Title IX of 1972, which prohibits the discrimination on the basis of sex in, among other things, sports in public schools.

I know some people don't think it's as important as artist gymnastics, but I thought the rhythmic gymnastics competition was gorgeous. The performances seem very similar to that of ballet, and those women are STRONG.

It's nice to have a couple of weeks every few years to sit back and watch the best the sports world has to offer. It really put me in a good mood, especially after having read such dismal reports of what is going on all over the world.
