As a white American woman, I took great offense last night at Michelle Obama's speech.  As it may have sounded like what some would like to hear, her making the statement that the White House was "built by slaves" is totally false.  It was built by many nationalities, Scottish, Italians, etc., and yes also by black people.   I am so tired of the political correctness when it comes to minorities.  Eight years ago, I was making more financially and able to live without feeling like I was going under water, however, now, 8 years later, that is not the case.  I have lost my job and have had to take a job making less due to outsourcing overseas.  The whole state of affairs is totally disgusting for me.  I have tried to understand some views on this board, however, I find it difficult when it comes to that aspect of the Dems views.  If Donald Trump can bring our jobs back to USA then by all accounts my vote is for him.  In the last 8 years, BO has done nothing but bring divisiveness and that was no more evident this his wife's speech the other night.  We live in 2016, not the civil war era, so it is time to move on and keep the "Slave" word out of the rhetoric. I work with black people, white people, indians, etc. and for some reason we get along but when one brings out this word, it does not help the situation.   This may offend some, that is not my intention, just a little frustrated because I would like to see change happen and if Donald Trump can clean house, that is what I want.

Minimum wage will not be eliminated. I was brought up that if you did a good job, you got raises and moved up in that manner. However, under BO watch, you can't even do that.

Good luck with that! Some MTs make $7.25/hr. I know that wages have...sm - VTMT

MTs compensation has gone steadily gone down since 2004 since the Indian companies bought out the American companies. The horse has long left the barn and our MT jobs of old are not coming back. Obama had nothing to do with it.

Oh I beg to differ, our trade deals and companies coming over here with businesses and not paying enough of their fair share to be in America, I feel has not helped. I am no longer in transcription and am fully aware that it is a dying profession. We need change and who knows, it might be for the best. Sometimes change is not a bad thing.

version of change, deporting 12 MILLION people with Gestapo tactics, stopping immigration and tourism by one-third of the world's population, spending billions on a wall that will just continue to be tunneled under, abandoning the ACA and putting 20+ million people off healthcare (the death panel everyone used to be so worried about). I want to see change, but positive progressive change.
We will have to wait and see, Vermont MT. - sm

The wonderful (in your opinion) ACA would cost me over $700 a month ("if you like your plan you can keep your plan was baloney!) I HAD insurance before Obama. Now, I don't. The company plan would costs me $1.87 an hour out of my now MINIMUM WAGE job. So, what is so wonderful? 12 MILLION criminals who have no legal right to be in this country (which makes it a crime-ie., criminal), some of whom would just love to chop off your head, not caring if you are a liberal or not, unless you believe all those victims of terror in Europe were conservatives (including CHLIDREN) and that the terrorists asked them their political views before murdering them! Obama's billions spent to set up EHRs nationwide DID cause our wages to go down as does providing health care for these same criminals-illegals and/or refugees, food stamps, Medicaid, section 8, costing us billions of dollars a year. Vermont MT, do you think you can get FREE anything in Mexico, Syria, Iran, Iraq? Your ideology, in my opinion, is a major part of the problem. Obama will leave this country with 21 trillion dollars in debt when he was going to get rid of the 8 trillion he inherited (or "I should not be President"). Before you go off blaming Bush for that, remember that Bill Clinton had the chance to take out Osama Bin Laden and he didn't. Had he, there would have been no 9/11 and no wars and no trillion dollars in debt. Lest we forget, a few weeks before the election 4 years ago we were told Al Quada was "on the run." Benghazi was a "video" all right before THAT election. Finally, Bernie Sanders lost, is a socialist who ONLY changes parties to run. Again, he LOST. Get over it. Free speech rant over.
You need to stop playing that false recording in your head... - sm

It is a very twisted view. Among those 12 million "criminals" are those who were brought here as children and are now grown, educated, raised as Americans, law-abiding in every way except their parents brought the here desperately looking for a better life for their children (which they found by the way), undocumented but now productive members of society. It also includes parents of American citizens of all ages. To call all 12+ million "criminals" is grossly unfair.

Next, it is irrational to abandon the ACA. It needs to be improved upon so the private insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies are no longer making huge profits at the expense of all of us. We need positive improvements, lowering the age for Medicare enrollment, making a public option available for those who want it. We can do better, but throwing people off their health insurance is not it.

This is a phenomenal post - and every single word is - true! Sadly

those blinded by the ideology you describe will never get it. I, too, lost every bit of my insurance (which I loved and was perfect for me), because of OC. Only to be offered far inferior insurance coverage that was MORE THAN MY F____G MORGTGAGE PAYMENT.....yeah real affordable. Even the people I know getting their insurance for "free" are very, very dissatisfied with the so-called care they get.

People that want to believe that Obama is so wonderful and has kept us safe will not understand the damage that goof has done to this country even if they or someone they loved (if they love someone other than themselves, which I doubt) was being beheaded before their eyes. That is exactly why those ideologues are so dangerous...they have no ability to think logically through any circumstance, situation, or problem.

How come the Democrats want to create another Civil Rights scenario or worse. I mean the blacks hate the white cops. Do they then hate all of us white people? I don't hate black people. I have made my life trying not to be prejudiced and for good reason, Dr. Martin Luther King who I admire greatly.

Michelle Obama's speech last night in my opinion keeps the racial divide open when she uses the word "slave". We live in 2016 and I have black friends, indian friends, Spanish friends, etc. I am so sick of it always coming back to times that are gone. We need to look forward and not behind and try to do better but when we refer to the times of civil war strife and slavery, etc. it just conjures up hatred. We live in hard times right now but all I can do is the right thing.

Why? sm - VTMT

[ In Reply To ..]
For 50+ years, ever since the civil rights legislation in the 60s, racist remarks or actions have been deemed politically incorrect, driving the holdout racists underground. They are now out of their caves and proud because Donald Trump has told them it is OK to be politically incorrect and has fostered an us against them mentality. It is true that only the older generation knows what happened back then, and most younger people are horrified to see and hear the same racism that us old ones experienced back then. Hence, the huge amount of young people voting for Bernie.

Umm, he did not donate 2 million to - "support police"
[ In Reply To ..]
He donated $1 million each to two organizations:

The International Association of Chiefs of Police’s newly established Institute for Community-Police Relations

and

the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

In his words:

“Over the past three decades I have seen up close the dedication of the law enforcement officers who protect me and my family. I have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service. I also recognize that for many people of color their experiences with law enforcement have been different than mine. I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change.

“To support that effort, I am making contributions of $1 million each to two organizations, the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s newly established Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The Institute for Community-Police Relations’ policy and oversight work is focused on building trust and promoting best practices in community policing. My donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the nation’s oldest civil rights law organization, will support its ongoing work in support of reforms that will build trust and respect between communities and law enforcement. Although I know these contributions alone are not enough to solve the problem, I hope the resources will help both organizations make a positive difference.

“We are privileged to live in the world’s greatest country – a country that has provided my family and me the greatest of opportunities. The problems we face didn’t happen overnight and they won’t be solved tomorrow, but if we all work together, we can foster greater understanding, positive change and create a more peaceful world for ourselves, our children, our families and our communities.”

To portray him as taking the police side I don't think is entirely accurate. Sounds like he is donating that money to help improve community relations and prevent further incidents of African Americans by police. To my knowledge, the NAACP Legal Fund works for accountability in these murders.

DNC aided and abetted 2 illegal aliens last night - thus violated federal law

[ In Reply To ..]
twice, Section 8 U.S. Code 1324.

At 8:04pm local time, the DNC invited an illegal alien to accompany her daughter to tout Hillary Clinton for president. During her speech, which was televised on national TV, the daughter explicitly said her mother is in the United States illegally. Minutes before the mother and daughter team took to the stage, the DNC played a video showing the daughter communicating with Hillary Clinton during one of her tour stops in Nevada. It was then that the daughter (Karla) admitted to Hillary Clinton that her mother (Francisca) received a government issued letter of deportation. Clearly, the mother is ignoring the deportation order, and so to is the DNC and Hillary Clinton.

Following the mother / daughter act, another illegal alien took to the podium at 8:09pm local time. Her name is Astrid Silva, and she said in clear english, “I came to America illegally with my mother when I was 4-years old. We crossed the river [Rio Grande] on a raft.”
