Where Are They Now?

Posted: Jun 26, 2016

Anyone who was here several years ago, before and right after Obamacare passed, must remember this:

On this board, in Politics, there was an ARMY of apparently (some self-identified) liberal Democrat, pro-Obama, pro-Obamacare posters insisting that the Affordable Care Act would be WONDERFUL for all Americans. To hear this rabid force tell it, the cost of insurance for everyone would go down (making health insurance "affordable") and we would all be in some kind of medical care utopia.  And the EHR was GREAT because it saved patient's lives.  Job security?  No worries!  There are PLENTY of jobs in MT despite the EHR, and EHR is opening up ALL KINDS of new opportunities!  You can go get training to help medical facilities transition into the EHR, and some of these jobs pay BIG BUCKS!!  Everything was going to be PEACHY!  Anyone who disagreed with them was jumped on viciously and attacked unmercifully with a barrage of ad hominems.

I frequent many political forums online and have seen that before.  I always wondered if they were PAID posters, and I also wondered if they SPECIFICALLY targeted this rather niche, off-the-beaten-path forum because of the devastation suffered by our profession because of the EHR.  (The EHR predates the ACA, but the ACA finalized the mandate.)

To be honest, I have always considered MTs (in general) to be smarter than the average Joe, and I couldn't believe so many MTs could be that -- well, dense.  So I never believed this was organic, that all these MTs -- many of whom no doubt were ICs so had no employer-paid benefits -- were embracing the new health insurance MANDATE in addition to technology which had the very REAL potential of destroying our very livelihood.

Now, here we are, years later.  Look at us!!  (what's left of us)

No MT on this board said any such thing about the...sm - VTMT

future of our profession, never ever thought EHR or VR were good things. We have watched US medical transcription slowly die over the past 10+ years. I must admit that I had high hopes for the ACA, but insurance companies are responsible for high deductibles and copays. I now believe Medicare for all is the solution. (I am now on Medicare and love it!) Pharmaceutical companies are ripping us off big time too!

Also realize that not everyone on this board is an MT.

Yes, you are correct and very astute in your observations. - SM

Maybe the "dislikes" are from those who were not on the forum at the time, or perhaps in time-out mode. I distinctly remember the Dems saying that things would be better for MTs once Obama got in the White House and George Bush was out. Curiously, they're still blaming George Bush and he's been out of office for 7-1/2 years. The economy has NOT improved. Hillary even said the other day that wages were stagnant and that SHE (insert Lone Ranger music here) would do something about it. Why the hell hasn't something been done in the last 7-1/2 years? This Obama administration has been more destructive than anyone ever thought, and the same pattern would continue under Hillary.

^^Obviously not an MT or you would agree with me. nm - VTMT

We are political opposites also.

I got interrupted between posts and someone thought I was the OP. Why, I have no idea.

Anyway, no, I do not agree with you. It appears to me that you have twisted the OP's words to fit your agenda.
Is that you Moi, responding to your own post? - nm

Isn't it amazing that a liberal just can't believe that a person can - think beyond their own personal

experience in regards to what kind of country we are leaving to our posterity? I've been an MT for 27 years. I'm affected by the change in pay and VR, but I know why it happened and can see the consequences of liberal policies.

I think many MT are single women and are on some form of govt assistance. I'm divorced and raised 2 kids on my own and put them through college. I never took any form of aid although I certainly was eligible.
