Anyone here belong to FlexJobs??

Posted: Jun 22, 2016

Someone just -- wisely -- suggested checking out online retailers' websites for at-home  employment opportunities.  I just went to one of my favorite companies' site, and their openings are ONLY visible to Flex Jobs members.

I keep running into this -- pay Flex Jobs a monthly fee for a job that probably pays $10 an hour at best.  So, I thought I'd ask you guys if any of you have subscribed to FlexJobs or know anyone who has.  Did you/they think it was worth it?  Thanks.

I was wondering about the same thing. I was tempted to join for a month to see what it was like. Hope there is someone out there who knows about it....

FlexJobs.com promises scam-free, personally reviewed telecommuting job leads, and it delivers. But whether there are enough to justify the fee would depend on your line of work and desire to find a telecommuting job.

While all the job postings on FlexJobs.com are available free elsewhere (each links to its original posting), FlexJobs makes them much more convenient to find because it reviews them and effectively filters out the work at home scams. And it finds jobs that are not actively advertised as telecommuting jobs. But, of course, convenience has a price. In this case, it's $14.95/month or $49.95/year.

Pros
•Screens out work at home scams well
•Wide variety of positions available
•Listings are well designed and some include a company description by FlexJobs
•Listings link to original job posting
•No ads and is Better Business Bureau accredited

Cons
•Confusing job categories that overlap significantly
•Jobs are published elsewhere

Rat Race Rebellion. They have daily lists of legitimate work at home jobs from a variety of employers and in a variety of categories. Only time the list is not really new is over the weekend and during holidays. They have a FB page and lots of informative articles about potential employers and working at home, including a recent one on common mistakes you may be making that keep you from getting a work at home job. Some jobs are employee, some IC, some are just gigs like filling out surveys, etc. Best of all, its FREE!

I know its not really an answer to your OP, but just thought I should throw that out there. Happy hunting!

I belonged, and used to come on here to recommend that others check it out, but I got accused of working for them and that it's just a big scam.

SO, I'm the person who wisely recommend you check company's websites for job openings.

So now that you all are okay with me bringing up my experience, let me tell you it was a great one. THEY do all the weeding out of work-at-home scams for you. Companies join with them because Flexjobs weeds out applicants who don't come close to qualifying.

I found it to be a great experience. I had several opportunities for job, and long story short, something opened up out of my home in my area, 5 minutes from my house, so I decided on that.

You can take skills tests through flexjobs to see "where you're at." You are not required to take any tests, and anything below a certain "grade" will not be visible to employers. They will send you regular e-mails with jobs they think you might qualify for.

So, that is that. I got slammed big time a few times for suggesting them directly--the whole thing where "you should never have to pay to get a job." This isn't like that---you are paying to have someone weed out the scams for you, someone to hold very helpful job interview webinars, resume help webinars, etc.

It's important for people to understand the difference between paying to get a job and paying a small fee for a service to obtain a job.

What "paying to get a job" means, is that you have to buy a foot pedal from a particular place of employment, or put out-of-pocket expenses to a particular company.

Using a company like flexjobs is not either of those things.

Has anyone tried MJOL site and gotten anything - other than spam or disappointed? SM

There were a few things on there I wanted to try for, to apply, but I am afraid of being spammed heavily, or recruited, or scammed, or whatever else.

I am afraid whatever I try for is going to be position filled, and I get redirected to some transcription school.

Several more years to retirement, and should be trying for disability, but still have to work.
