Never thought I would agree with

But I do, as does any sane person. These AR 15 rifles have to go. The fact you can get one with NO waiting period, as opposed to a handgun (why pray tell?) is just obscene.

We all know what happens after the left bans guns. Look what happened after - the tommy gun was banned during

prohibition. The "bad guys" still had then. One could even argue the govt caused the problem by prohibition in the first place.

Just like clockwork, the arguments turns to guns. The problem is terrorism.

Guess what one of the big problems is in Australia? - Guns in the hands of criminals.

Why do anti-gun people, socialists, etc. know so little about the reality of experience when their stupid ideas have been tried? There's no mystery about this.

I have absolutely no idea. It's not like this information cannot be found.

Are you in Australia? - Aussie Girl

[ In Reply To ..]
Because if not, then I'd wager you know very little about the reality of living here.

Australia NEVER had mass shootings on a daily basis the way the US does. In fact, since 1996 we have had ONE which was a murder-suicide involving a man, his wife and their children.

Criminals have always had and will always have guns and other weapons. But they can't just walk into a shop and buy one, or attend a fundraiser to WIN one. They have to have the right connections and lots of money to buy on the black market. The members of the crime underworld aren't interested in involving the general public, they're mainly using the weapons against each other. Gun licences and permits can be obtained by people like farmers, hunters and target shooters. But I feel very safe knowing that I'm not going to get shot while I get my groceries because a kid pulled their mum's gun out of her handbag or by my crazy neighbour over a petty argument.

I don't know what the answer is as there is a giant cultural difference between the US and most other developed countries when it comes to guns. But the rest of the world looks at the US after Orlando, Sandy Hook, etc, etc, etc, and shakes our collective heads and wonders how many more innocent people need to die before it stops.
This is not a gun problem. It's a cultural problem. We've had guns in America since the fo - and never had problems like this. I grew

up with gun lessons in school in the 1960s. People would bring their guns on the city bus!

The problem is cultural and spiritual. If not guns, then the terrorists will use something else. Bombs, gas, etc.

OH MY GOD, I was taught the same thing in the same year and age at camp. Maybe we were at the same one.

What is an "assault rifle" There are basically 2 definitions - of an "assault weapon"

[ In Reply To ..]
i.e. a political and a military definition.

The political definition is basically just anything which, on a scale of one to ten for being scary looking to democrats, goes much over a six. The real military definition is more complex. Most assume a weapon has to be at least semi-automatic and preferably automatic to quality but, in real life, that's not really necessary. In fact in real life, most people attempting to fire any military weapon in full auto mode will never hit anything with it.

What you really want and need for an assault weapon are things which work well in assault situations:

•Big enough to injure a human adversary badly enough to take him out of the battle.

•Otherwise fairly small, easy to load up with lots of ammo and carry lots of ammo around. That says small caliber; the tradeoff is that you assume you're not shooting anything past about 300 meters which is normal for most military situations. This eliminates the idea of taking 600 meter shots with an assault rifle. One guy in the squad carries something which CAN do that.

•Quick (aimed) follow on shots.

•Light, easy to carry and manipulate.

Add to that list the ideas that it would be good if the thing never jammed and were easy to clean. Add all of that up, and what I come up with is a lot different from the pictures you usually see:

These are the two rifles I'd ask you to look at:

The Israeli heavy barreled FAL rifle is basically a conversation piece for older people, way too heavy and clunky to meet the military definition of an "assault rifle"; in the Israeli army it served the dual purpose of sniper rifle and squad level light machinegun.

The little 22-magnum caliber Henry Rifle, assuming it was using the newest Hornady ammo with 45-grain bullets meets the military definition other than for lacking a detachable magazine which would be a slight modification and in fact it would surprise me if the military hasn't looked into it.

The Henry is a $330 item on Gunbroker or at BassPro or Gander Mountain.

Basically just the wood stock has been replaced with a - metal stock, so it just looks
