Would appreciate any knowledge you have about this, options, mechanism, etc.  I do not even know enough to ask an intelligent question.

I have a reverse mortgage. - s/m

If not for getting one I probably would have lost my home thanks to my pay being slashed in half. There is a lot of info you can find out about them online. If you have any specific questions, feel free to post and I'll do my best to answer

my hubs wants to do this, but what is something happens to him first, I know I can't take of this house all by myself with the yard and inside and upkeep. What are my resources then? Thanks

You still own the house...sm - Tanya

We have a reverse mortgage on our home. It's lovely having no mortgage payments. We do have to pay taxes and insurance and maintain the home. We bought the house using a reverse mortgage and it allowed us to buy a much nicer home in a better neighborhood than we could have just using the funds available to us (inheritance).

You still own the home and can sell it should something happen to your husband first. The mortgage is paid off at closing, just like if you had a mortgage that you make payments on, and any equity is paid to you after closing costs, realtor fees, etc.

If you owe more than the house is worth, then you call the bank and tell them it's their house and you're moving out.

When we bought the house using the reverse mortgage I was not yet 62, so my name isn't on the house at all. I do have enough life insurance on DH to pay it off if I want to should he pass first, but my goal is a condo in Clearwater FL overlooking the beach, so I'd put the house on the market, pack up my critters, and move on out, telling the realtor to send me a check when it closes.

A reverse mortgage isn't for everybody, but don't just write it off without investigating it. You are required to take a course outlining the requirements and expectations of the reverse mortgage before you close on it, and please pay attention. We did ours over the phone, but I'm not sure that is still a viable option. We got our mortgage 6 years ago and some things may have changed.

weird details - but don't know specifics

I have a relative with reverse mortgage. She's elderly and been in hospitals a lot lately. She was told that she's required to physically live in the house and if she's out of it for a year for any reason that she can lose the house. I don't know specific rules on this, but she's worried that this will happen. She just can't live at home now. I don't know if she can later, but right now, it's not an option. Too much care is needed. It's something to further research. One never knows how health can turn bad (rather quickly sometimes).

Once you leave the home for an extended period of time such as a hospital or nursing facility they can take possession. However; I took a Reverse Mortgage 6 years ago but needed the money more to help my grandson not lose his home. In brief, in December of 2015 I decided to move in with my grandson and his family and called RM to tell them I had vacated the property. We are almost in July and they changed the locks on the property, the grass is as tall as me and I no longer have access to the home but the place is still in my name. They instead of taking possession by deed are doing a foreclosure (that will not reflect on my credit) which they cannot tell me when this house will be out of my name. Supposedly they tell me should anything happen to the property I am responsible. This RM has been a pain in the neck and all I want is to be done with this property. I would never ever do this again.

Mortgage ProblemsNov 12, 2009
Hi everyone - Anyone have any ideas about what to do with a bad mortgage, other than foreclosure I mean.  We got sold to a servicing company some time ago.  My DH decided to ask, just ask, about getting a loan modification and they automatically went ahead and did this without us filling out any paperwork.  Can you believe it!?  We tried calling and talking with them about this but got no where to say the least.  We decided to just keep paying our regular mortgage a ...

Mortgage Company AdviceSep 23, 2010
I made a very poor job decision at the end of May and tried to stick it out through June and July.  Realized that what the company promised in terms of production and editing pay was never going to happen for me and have since found a wonderful place where I can make enough to pay the bills.  My problem is my mortgage didn't get paid in June and July and I was only able to pay half in August.  I'm paying them more than the minimum this month and every month from now on ...

Bailout Watchdog Calls Mortgage Programs a Bust   Published July 21, 2010  Government watchdogs are telling a Senate panel that the Obama administration's multibillion effort to help at-risk homeowners avoid foreclosure is not working and could put the economic recovery at risk. Reverse Engineering Ahmed's Clock And Ourselves.Sep 19, 2015
Ahmed Mohamed: as a youngster, I was also an electronics enthusiast. At his age and even earlier, I frequently took apart electronic devices – anything from my own toys, to broken things around the house, and even that dirty garbage-picked black and white TV my parents dragged home that they knew I’d have a blast playing with (I did.) I’d try and troubleshoot, repair, or sometimes just disassemble things and salvage components for future projects. I’d try and imagine how all those bits a ...

How Federal Funds Helped Mitt Reverse Olympic Revenue ShortagesJul 21, 2012
The Romney camp has attempted to steer focus away from his term as governor, and is now chafing under the yoke of his business credentials of late.  Maybe they would be more comfortable with national scrutiny of his involvement in the 2002 Winter Olympics since candidate often points to that experience as a fundamental resume qualification for running the country “like a business.” After overcoming initial Mormon and non-Mormon local opposition based on perceptions of cronyism ...

Getting Second Opinion Recent Eye SurgeryMar 22, 2013
I decided to contact one of the managers where I had my cataract surgery about 4 weeks ago now as striving to see what other options might be open for me. Needless to say I do not have any desire to return to the original surgeon, not that he failed but with his flaring up about a perfectly innocent comment from me, will not trust him in going forward with any tweeking that might need to be done. I have an appointment to see the manager on Monday. I like to speak face to face with a person, not ...

Recent Shooting (Shaw) In St. Louis Is Not Oct 12, 2014
The article draws from many different reports, but the gist of it is that St. Louis Police cannot get their "story" straight.  Why do they need a story  Can't they just tell the truth.  Leaves me once again wondering if the victim had a gun at all.  Becoming extremely disillusioned.   I know the kid was on house arrest and shouldn't have been out.  But he went out for a sandwich and up until that point, as far as anyone reports, he hadn't done anyth ...

What An Experience! Jan 24, 2011
He grasped me firmly but gently just above my elbow, guided me into his room and quietly shut the door. We were alone. He approached soundlessly from behind and spoke in a soft voice: "Just relax." Without warning, he reached down and soon I felt his strong hands start at my ankles, gently probing, moving steadily upward along my calves. My breath caught in my throat. I knew I should be afraid, yet somehow I just didn't care. His touch was experienced and sure. As his hands moved up my thig ...

Has Anyone Else Experience This ?May 28, 2015
After ten years of having the Wound Care Clinic at the place I work for being my primary account, last week they just disappeared.  I wouldn't have had any warning except that in the body of one report a few weeks ago one of the docs told the patient that they were switching over to EMR.  I know it sounds like nothing, but I have typed for these four physicians for Ten Years, almost exclusively!  I know they don't know that only one person was doing their transcription, ...

Anyone With Experience With This?Oct 23, 2015
Last month, someone charged 300+ in nutrition products to my charge card exactly ten days before it expired, then a few minutes later tried it again.  The card company noticed it and texted me.  I told them that I did not make the charges, so they charged the first one back to the nutrition products seller and declined approval on the second one, and cancelled the card. The online seller, a fitness company, has now submitted their evidence.  They claim I bought it and they shippe ...

Anyone Have Experience With This Situation?Sep 09, 2011

Wondering If Anyone Else Has Had This ExperienceJul 21, 2012
I recently said on another board I was glad I did not have any friends because no one can say do it for the kids.  Well, when I talk about my anxiety and depression, I get very sick and tired of people saying it is because I do not have enough faith.  Believe me, I do.  Or I did anyway.  I have asked to be filled with the holy spirit.  I have begged for a miracle.  Not sure what else to do, but it is CHEMICAL.  Has nothing to do with faith.   Off soapbox ...
