Has anyone ever taken Doxycycline Mono?

Posted: May 9, 2016

by my dentist for an infection.  Here's my question.  My dentist said "take it with food, its a gut bomb".  I filled the prescription and they told me to eat then 2 hours later take it.

If anyone has taken it, did you take it with food or 2 hours after you eat.  How much food do I need to eat.  I usually have a piece of rye toast with peanut butter before 7am, then around 9am I have some yogurt.  Should I wat 2 hours after the yogurt do you think?  When she says it's a "gut bomb", what do you think she meant.  That sounds pretty bad so am wondering if I need to eat more than what I usually do.  Also I take insulin in the morning and I try to take metformin and glipizide when I eat.

Luckily the rx is for 7 days, but does not sound like it's going to be a good week for me.  I also just got in these new supplements I am going to try to try and get my sugars under control, so figured I'd take the antibiotics morning and noon along side my diabetes meds, then try the blood sugar supplements I just got in at night.  Hoping that the spacing of all this works out.  Jeepers this can get confusing.

I guess all I'm wondering is whehter I should take the doxy when I eat or 2 hours after I eat and how much I should eat.  Sorry if I driveled on about the other stuff.

Doxycycline, just like other antibiotics, often gives you diarrhea. It kills off your normal gut flora, resulting in diarrhea. I wouldn't call it a "gut bomb," exactly, but maybe that is his experience speaking.

You may also end up with a vaginal yeast infection, too. He probably doesn't know about that!

If you Google doxycycline you can read the manufacturers literature on it.

When I prescribed it, I was told NOT to take it within 2 hours of eating. Hope this helps.

I have had to take it a lot for acne problems. I take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. I have a very sensitive stomach and it has NEVER bothered me. Here is a link from CVS.
