What is happening to me? Is it menopause?

Posted: Nov 30, 2015

though they are erratic, usually about 3 months apart at this point.  I feel like I am losing my mind....had an episode of vertigo a few weeks ago followed by extreme anxiety and nausea, wound up in the ER (and if you knew me you'd know I wouldn't even think of going unless I thought I were dying)....they found nothing wrong, sent me home on meclizine, which does nothing.  I still have this weird anxious/dizzy feeling that usually builds up over the day, getting worse until I finally fall asleep, along with feeling like I'm going insane.  I usually can calm myself down enough but it takes time.  I'm right at the age where I should be going thru menopause...could all this be because of THAT?  They didn't make any mention of that at the ER....just gave me a CT and an MRI, which were normal.  Not sure what they thought they were looking for with an MRI of my brain???? Now here I am almost a month later and I still can't shake this feeling.  If it is hormones/menopause I pray this is over soon!  I'd trade the worst hot flashes for THIS any day!

Could be hormones - sm

could be a messed up heart rhythm, could be stress. Taking any new medications or supplements ? Go to you reg doctor and start eliminating things. They ruled out a mass or stroke that's a good start.

Could b allergies and sinuses also - nm

Could be menopause. - anon

If I were you, I'd talk to my PCP and my gynecologist about the symptoms. It does kind of sound like a hot flash without the heat, but it's lasting a lot longer than mine do. Mine are like 1 minute long. I had trouble with vertigo years ago and recently figured out that it was silent migraines.

Sounds like anxiety/panic attacks...probably - anxiety

from job stress of being an MT. Try Zoloft starting out at 0.25 mg a day for anxiety/panic attacks. This is what I did and feel so much better. Also I drink Tension Tamer team by Celestial Seasonings which helps me relax.

Zoloft rocks! - At least for me!

[ In Reply To ..]
It changed my whole life. I am calm now instead of SCREAMING PANICKED all the time. Wish they'd had it in the 60s/70s. Doesn't help everyone, though. I'd talk to your GYN and see what she/he thinks. Good luck!

Changed my mom's life incredibly - Nik

My mom was always "high strung." Later in life she started having what were probably panic attacks like getting dizzy while walking by by herself in the mall, etc. Her PA got her on Zoloft (which she initially resisted as my mom thinks taking meds is a sign of weakness). She felt so much better to the point that she thought she didn't them and stopped. Well, you know what happened... Now she takes them and realizes she needs them, that a body chemistry problem is not weakness. It has changed her life not only because Zoloft really does help, but she no longer is afraid of feeling "funny."

So... - Let Me Understand This

[ In Reply To ..]
I need to understand something. You are on medication because of MT? I would say that's an abuse of a medication. MT is not the only job in the world. If, however, you already had a problem and MT made it worse, I understand that.

Meanwhile, if anyone is having to take drugs of any sort just because of this confounded MT career, start looking elsewhere. The action of taking control and looking for other work will do wonders for your mood.

I was almost a basket case in this job until I started looking for another line of work. No, I did not find it right away, but I will tell you that taking the horse by the reigns will give you a lot of hope.

Thanks all for the advice and comments - I guess I need to go back

to my PCP. I always feel like they might think I'm a hypochondriac....

PCP vs female GYN - Steamy

[ In Reply To ..]
For quite some time I had strange problems. My male PCP was sympathetic and told me about his wife's experience. I went to the female GYN and immediately had a prescription for a low dose venlafaxine. It was difficult for me to get used to the drug at first and if I miss a dose I get some uncomfortable side effects, but I feel so much better, it is worth it.

NP specializing in anti aging hormonal - radmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to see an NP anti-aging, bioidentical hormone specialist referred by my PCP. (wellness center)
Have extensive blood work drawn including your D3 levels, thyroid, estrogen, progesterone etc. Once your levels are determined - they and you will have a better understanding if related to hormones. Can make adjustments with vitamin therapy, compounded hormones if deficient.

Hope you feel better soon. I was 40 when first experienced vertigo - it was a HIGH stress reaction for me personally (taking care of a family member with cancer).

Going Through Menopause - When Will I Ever Get Through It?Dec 09, 2009
I am forgetful.  I am fatigued.  My perception is off.  When asked a question sometimes I know in my mind what to say, but then the wrong answer comes out my mouth, i.e. "is the elevator going up or down"  I would say going down, but in my mind I knew it was going up and that is what I thought I was saying until it comes out of my mouth as opposite. ...

How Do You Know If You Are Going Into Menopause?Jan 02, 2011
I'm 46 and I think it's too early for full menopause, but can you start going into premenopause much sooner?  What's the average age for that?  The reason I ask is that for the past year, I've been having some weird symptoms and am just now wondering if it has anything to do with hormones/menopause symptoms;  the worst of which was an episode where I woke up with the room spinning around me.  It was terrifying.  Then right afterwards I got really nau ...

Menopause QuestionOct 05, 2015
I'd appreciate any insight: I have recently developed pain in my nither region. I thought yeast infection, got an OTC treatment with no relief. Made an appointment with my doc, but got a clean bill of health. The pain persists, doc ordered tests, ultrasound, all normal. He thinks dryness or perhaps the beginning of atrophy, said we could try hormones but I haven't decided on that.  Has anyone ever had this?  It's not excruciating, but it does hurt, like I got a hefty kic ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

I have been transcribing for 32 years now, am 54 years old.  I started menopause 1-1/2 years ago (so I guess since they say you have to have missed a period for 1-full year that I am officially menopausal).  My world seems topsy turvy.  Is there light at the end of the tunnel.   I have tried working a second job for the past year off and on, but it has been too difficult to concentrate.  After 10 years of working from home, because of the slump in production decided ...

My LMP was almost 3 yrs ago.  Not too many hot flashes, about 3 a day, but the ones at night wake me up, so I don't get good sleep.  I'm 46 now, menarche at 10.  Saw an ob/gyn 3 ysa and said my LH and FSH were too low to be having any more periods.  Any info, this is just the pits.  Mood swings, swelling, weight gain, you know the gory details.  Tried soy pills and tofu/soy products, but made the hot flashes worse and will not use hormones.   I ...

Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.       Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them. Is this staged or for real? Only time will tell. At least four people were killed and dozens of others were injured when militiamen opened fire as they defended one of the bases. Looters carried weapons out of the vacated Ansar al-Sharia military base compound, which has been linked to the attack on the US consulate last week. The US ambassador to Libya and three other Americans died in the attack. Ansar al-Sharia has denied any involvement. The action against the group appeared to be part ...

Also having breakfast close to sunroom. All the blinds closed and noticed a white spot that was the breakfast wall, next to sunroom. As I mentioned to DH, th ...
