What are your ideas to prevent people being killed by guns?

I would love to see something like the DMV for gun owners. You would:

1. Register all guns just like cars.

2. You would have to pass a test for a license to use it. Including that you are not a drunk, not blind, have some debilitating condition, a criminal, have a restraining order.

3. You would have to show proof of liability insurance.

Psychologists/doctors would be able suspend licenses but there would be an appeal process.

Now, I am not afraid of that. Why would you object?

Ideas? It would be nice if this were actually a conversation and not another insult fest.

Regarding liability insurance, how about requiring violent felons purchase liability insurance whether they owned a firearm or not. Let the criminals make the headlines, not the guns.

How about mandatory liability insurance for HIV carriers in case they infect someone with a sexually-transmitted disease?

No insurance company will write a policy to cover the intentional or criminal misuse of a firearm. The only way an insurance company would EVER write a policy for something that stupid is if the premium was $500,000.

Let's look at other reasons for the rise in violent behavior, including the spirituality and evil.

Most is just slow death by alcohol of the person ingesting. Occasional deaths, usually ACCIDENTAL.

Why is this concept so hard that the primary purpose of a GUN is to do destruction to something, whether it be target or person and that destruction is purposeful and irrevocable? And that GUNS are used as weapons expressly to do harm, as weapon of choice to do a lot of destruction, and that they are easily obtained and used.

As with kids and cars, you keep your keys put away if the kids are likely to try to use the car and there is a communication issue (age/mental reason).

Having been a news junkie since teen years, I have read just about everything there is to read about international affairs, the economy, politics, crime.

Transfer of wealth to developing natinos by big investors is nearly complete. The country and every bank in the US is bankrupt. Debt clock stopped advancing several weeks ago. Printing cash to fund the US govt has been halted. There is going to be a day very soon when the govt check is not in the mail. That will result in mayhem for obvious reasons. EBT cards will cease working. US dollar is being abandoned as well, no longer the reserve currency, being replaced by China's YUAN. I live in San Joaquin Valley, Salad Bowel of hte world. All top shelf produce is shipped to China and has been for 2 years. This should be concerning for very obvious reasons.

Without EBT cards, food on the shelf that is affordable, the situation will result in austerity measures similar to Greece. BRIC countries are creating a central bank to compete with the west's central bank as it is defunct beyond description. There are trillion dollars of Credit Default swaps/derivatives (bets not unlike casino bets, on what will go up in value, what will go do..hedging bets against them)are backed by FDIC in USA. when the banks go under, the FDIC will first cover the derivatives (paying investors) and resort to depositor insurance afterward...and there isn't enough cash/currency in existence to cover the derivative bets.

prediction is the entire global economy will be reduced to desperate measures and the International Monetary Fund will arrive with SDR (Special Drawing Rights).

Predatory lending, fixed-to-fail investment vehicles and blatant unfettered fraud has led the US global economy to this point.

This is not a good time to be without protection. Hungry angry teens, and people who have relied on a govt handout are going to be left empty handed. USA has the largest army on earth, the US gun owners. If I were to select a country to live in when the Ponzi scheme wraps up, I would not want to be in a country where 45 million people are on the dole and left to forge for food. What about you?

He was a GAM (grown a** man), and how many of us have children that age we have not seen for equally as long when they go off to start their own lives.

The fact his father has not seen him in 2 years has absolutely nothing to do with parenting here. I wonder if he was not mixed race this would even be brought up at all.

In fact, NYC is a lot cleaner and safer now than when I grew up.

This is America, of course rich people get better treatment, they can pay for it! But what do you consider being defenseless, simply not being armed?

The real difference is not everyone had a gun years ago and many people (including cops!) would hesitate to use them. You might get robbed, but probably not shot. Now you are more likely to be shot in any event, even young kids playing in a house, even for no apparent reason.

So do you think the answer is taxpayers paying for everyone to have a gun to defend themselves or something? I wouldn't want it, frankly.
