Suggestion for Bathroom Rugs

Posted: Oct 5, 2015

Does anyone know of a good brand of bathroom rugs? I am really tired of buying nice rugs and having them last only until the first or second wash. After that, the backing begins to dissolve and crumble and/or the rug loops themselves become frayed and I find tiny rug strands everywhere. My current rugs are from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I don't know the brand, but they're the ones inventoried on their shelving with all the matching towels. I don't mind if I have to pay a little bit more. I just want something that won't fall apart. A name brand or a store brand suggestion would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Bathroom rugs are filth-magnets. Eww! I use a terry bath mat to keep the floor dry when stepping out of the shower or bath. It gets washed right along with the towels. Other times, the floor is bare.

I cannot imagine why your rugs would be - "filth magnets."

Do you have accidents on them or something?

I think this is an excellent question and I hope there are more suggestions. I have experienced the same thing. I vacuum and shake my rugs as well as wash them and they just don't last like they used to. I have tile floors. I don't like to walk on cold tile in the dead of winter.

Just a simple comment about your mat would have sufficed. Keep it classy, K?

Actually, I do not wear outdoor shoes in the house, - either.

What you bring in from the outside is horribly disgusting. I have a pair of clean slippers at the top of my stairs when I enter my apartment and put them on before I go into any rooms.
For those of us who are more rural, removing shoes first isn't always an option. - Gotta hit the head!

We also remove our shoes 75% of the time when we come inside, as there is a lot of dirt to go through before you get to the front door.

However, on those days where it's either hoof it to the bathroom with footwear on or have an accident, you can betcha we opt for mucking up the floors/bath mats instead!

I just replace the cheapie bath/toilet mats every year. My neighbor actually takes them to use under bark mulch in her gardens.

We have to use bath mats and that little mat around the toilet where it meets the floor because our floors get freezing in winter and are also super slippery when wet. At least we have indoor plumbing! :-D

I know what you mean - SM

There are times when I don't remove my shoes before walking in the apartment, but I try as much as possible to avoid doing so. Even with this, my carpets (landlord has the entire apartment carpeted except for bathroom and kitchen) get so dirty. I live in a high traffic area, and no matter what I do it gets very dirty!

Vermont Country Store or LL Bean online - preppy

I hope you don't think I'm too preppy, but I shop LL Bean online a lot. They have a lifetime money back guarantee. I, like the previous poster, just use a cotton bath mat for stepping out of the shower and wash it when I wash my towels, but they sell bathroom rugs too. Years ago I bought a nice cotton rug for my kitchen at the Vermont Country Store online and they sell bath rugs too. It lasted years. I still have it, but I just use it as a tent doormat for camping now because the colors don't match my current kitchen.

Try some of these - sm

Abyss & Habidecor, Dash and Albert, Ralph Lauren. Some of these are very expensive, but they do go on sale. My downstairs Ralph rugs are about 10 years old, no fading, backing still intact, washed many times. The Ralph towels are about 15 years old (why I bought the rugs), and no fading, fraying. Still look great.

The only solution I've found is to not put them - in the dryer

Otherwise, the backing always seem to degrade quickly.

i'm surprised yours do not last.. - radmt

I buy mine from Costco (Mineral Spring bath rug)lol made in India. And the other one had so long no clue to brand name because no tag. They both wash and wear great. I find them on markdown sale and grab from Costco. had almost 2 years and paid under $10.

Did away with all rugs in my home except - 1 in the master BR

When first moving in my home the people before us had light beige rugs in the LR/DR combination. I have 4 cats. Cats sometimes have fur balls. When the carpet in the LR/DR became soiled and I decided to replace my hubby came up with the idea of why not tile? We put porcelain all through the LR/DR, even my work room and then tile in the kitchen, hallway and in the master bathroom. Two other full baths already had tile. I now have a rug in the master bathroom I bought at Costco for exiting the shower and have never had issues with it coming apart. I tend not to keep bathroom rugs until they fall apart, rather to get another. My hubby borders on germaphobic so he would rather switch out than to wash and rewash them.

No shoes inside either. - OP

Thank you all for the suggestions. I now have a place to start.

As for outside shoes indoors, they are not allowed in my house either.

I always seem to have a problem with service people, however. Some are very compliant. Others, when asked to wipe their feet well or remove their shoes, look at me as if I have 2 heads.

When I was looking for area rugs, I was searching on Overstock.com and read about bamboo rugs. It was stated that they dried super fast and lasted a long time. I did not get a bamboo rug because they were somewhat pricy, but one might be worth it if it lasted a long time.

How much absurdity have we signed on for when there’s not just one question about bathroom use at a White House press briefing, but the bathroom questions go on and on and on . . . even though they’re basically all the same question and they keep getting the same answer? Sound familiar? Google “Trump presser Russia.” As they so often do, the media either totally miss the point or understand it perfectly well and still refuse to let the issue go. They seem to think they’ve ...

at the house like the drop in vanity sink etc and we had a plumber do all this and they got very good "name brand" sinks, faucets etc.  I am amazed at how the quality of a lot of these things has deteriorated compared to the old stuff and how that was made.  It just seems like everything today is disposable and this stuff cost a lot of money plus installation.  I guess this is the way it is.  You do the best you can.  I think if this is the good stuff what are the cheape ...

to remove the "politics board" entirely and "ban" the "troublemakers" (and we ALL know who they are) until well after the elections.  The elections are not that far off and banning has been done previously for a 3 month period of time of others who challenge the rules.  I just read all of the posts underneath the Moderators rules and reasons for removing some posts about Mr. Eastwood, and those posts too were disrespectful and "challenging."  I am appalled that anyone would ...

Response To Suggestion To Watch "The Talk"Feb 08, 2011
There was a discussion last month about "The VIew" and how revolting it has gotten. Someone on here suggested watching "The Talk", which I have recorded and have watched 6 or so shows, rarely the whole show.  I can't say I'm crazy about it.  Seems like they are all too much alike and not spontaneous.   I guess my favorite would be the one that sits by the host, the one married to the football player.  As much as I liked Leah Remini on King of Queens, I find her over ...
