Australians think we

Posted: Oct 4, 2015

After the massacre in Tasmania, they instituted stricter gun laws and there have been no mass shootings in 19 years.  The people of Australia are not complaining.

POINT is that gun control works---for a whole - COUNTRY

[ In Reply To ..]
granted, a country that is not controlled by the NRA and the 1% with a bunch of wannabes following along.

Who has to die for this to become important?

Exactly! For some, it is a black and white, all or nothing issue. sm - VTMT

In my opinion, this is far from the truth. I find it unbelievable that so many people would vote against background checks and denying guns to the mentally ill, domestic abusers, and people convicted of violent offenses.
Problem is, no one wants to talk about the mentally ill - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
and domestic abusers, etc. or do anything about it. They just want to restrict guns from the law-abiding citizens.

They don't have a solution for this because it's either like you said....black or white. They all sit there scratching their butts (heads) trying to figure out a simple solution when there is none. It's too hard for their pea brains.

We need some smart people in D.C., no 2 ways about it. It's a shame people are too stupid to research candidates before they vote. They hear the promises from smooth-talking wannabes without the brains to follow through on their promises. Obama is a fine example of that, as is the loud mouth Trump.

BTW, today Trump said we shouldn't interfere with Putin and Iran in Syria to see what happens! Is he for real? We know what will happen...take over Syria, next Iraq, Jordan and Egypt, which Iran is already in Iraq, then Israel will be surrounded and won't have much of a chance to survive.

Nobody also wants to address the issue of psychotropic - drug overuse and the breakdown of
[ In Reply To ..]
the family structure, and dare I say it, taking God out of everything.

It's easier to blame the gun and not the symptoms and disease.
I'm convinced progressives done really want a solution - their end game is confiscation of guns.
[ In Reply To ..]
The truth is, most guns deaths are used with illegally obtained guns and suicide by gun is also used in statistics with homicide data.
The tactic of the left is to make guns socially - unacceptable through control

We have background checks ....... - ...but only for those who don't break the law

Nobody wants to talk about Hollywood or the video games - our kids are desensitized to killing and blood....to the mentally ill person with a gun, he is playing a video game......

NRA controlling the country? - Kat

[ In Reply To ..]
If we had stricter gun control, do you think the murderers, rapists, etc. are just going to lay down their guns? If I didn't have a gun, I'd be out in the cemetery and my son would have been an orphan. I carry a gun everywhere I go because I'm not going to be the one that gets shot if some crazy person decides to shoot up a WalMart. I will likely be the one who neutralizes him. Liberals are *. I tell you what, you stay on the line with the police and wait up to an hour for them to come while somebody is breaking in your house ready to rape up, rob you or murder you. Stop the insanity of this gun control idea. It's never going to happen, not in our lifetimes anyway.
The NRA are the insane ones. They'll never - stop trying to rationalize gun violence.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_%28Australia%29

The Port Arthur massacre of 28–29 April 1996 was a killing spree in which 35 people were killed and 23 wounded. It occurred mainly at the historic Port Arthur former prison colony,[1] a popular tourist site in south-eastern Tasmania, Australia.[2]

Martin Bryant, a 28-year-old from New Town, a suburb of Hobart, was found guilty and given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole.[3] Following the incident, it emerged in the media that Bryant had significant intellectual disabilities. He is now imprisoned in the Wilfred Lopes Centre near the Risdon Prison Complex.[4]

The Port Arthur massacre remains one of the deadliest shootings worldwide committed by a single person. Following the spree, the Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard, introduced strict gun ownership laws within the country and formulated the National Firearms Programme Implementation Act 1996, restricting the private ownership of semi-automatic rifles, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns as well as introducing uniform firearms licensing. It was implemented with bipartisan support by the Commonwealth, states and territories.[5]

trying to portray law-abiding conservative Americans as being fine with dead Americans and using emotion to manipulate people.

Benjamin Franklin was right. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Now I know what he meant.

Remember that soldier last year who was beheaded by a Muslim in broad daylight in front of many UNARMED onlookers? He could have been stopped.

even more people would have died, including him. If the original shooter didn't nail him, when the police arrived they wouldn't have asked him if he was a good guy or not, even if he had indeed shot the bad guy; they've have "dispatched" him... in their jargon.

I see how this works. You say something extreme to - portray Americans who are pro

With each passing month, living in a "rah-rah American" becomes more and more of an embarrassment. We're perceived as a nation of gun-crazy rednecks, and for the most part that assumption appears to be right on.

Thank you VTMT - see message.

What we currently are doing is certainly not working. I see no reason why we cannot change what we are doing. In my view, anyone who has had a restraining order placed against them should have to have an official evaluation to decide competence to own a gun. Anyone with a DUI, anyone with burglary, anyone admitted to a psych ward for suicidal or homicidal threats should have any guns taken away until they are cleared from a psychiatric standpoint. I think the first weapon should not have too many restriction, but every weapon thereafter would require a thorough review and authorization.

Would this cost a bit? Yes, but a nice fat registration fee might discourage frivolous purchases, add some jobs to the economy and perhaps save a few lives.

Until someone comes up with a better solution, that is what I think.

I have also heard some say we should freely sell guns to...sm - VTMT

How do those people in the Outback protect themselves - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
from danger especially from wild animals where a semi-automatic weapon is necessary? They were against the gun control measures but because Aussies live mostly in cities, had to chance to fight the law.

It was gun confiscation and our Constitution doesn't allow that. Aussies can still own guns and it's very easy to turn them into automatic weapons if they wanted to do so.

You see what they're trying to do now, don't you? They're trying to block immigration by Muslims because of the threat of terrorist acts since most Aussies can no longer protect themselves. They have to rely on the government to protect them.

I say good luck with that! Of course, they probably do have a better and stronger leader than the stupid leaders we have.

I'll wait with you for an answer to this one. - LM

Criminals don't obey gun laws!!
